Let's prepare to meditate.
Adjust your body so that you are sitting comfortably.
Close your eyes.
Rest your hands on your lap in any way that is comfortable for you.
Take a nice filling breath in.
Breathe deeply in through your nose and breathe out slowly through your mouth.
Do this again.
Now when you exhale,
Breathe out with a long sigh.
Do this breathing again a few more times to settle your mind and body.
You are ready to begin.
A metaphor is a figure of speech where we compare two things,
Saying that one thing is the other.
When we use a metaphor,
We do so without using the words like or as.
For instance,
Her heart is gold,
Or he was a busy bee.
These are examples of metaphors.
Today,
We will use metaphors to help us relax and imagine.
I will give you a sentence starter,
And you imagine the end to that sentence as it describes you and who you are.
Let's begin.
Imagine.
If I were an animal,
I'd be.
.
.
How are you like this animal?
If I were a food,
I'd be.
.
.
How are you like this food?
If I were a color,
I'd be.
.
.
How are you like this color?
If I were a character from a movie or a show or a fairy tale,
I would be.
.
.
Why are you like this character?
If I were a toy,
I would be.
.
.
How are you and this toy alike?
If I were a season,
I would be the season of.
.
.
How are you and this season similar?
If I were a type of vehicle,
I would be.
.
.
How are you and this vehicle similar?
If I were a sport,
I would be the sport of.
.
.
How are you like this sport?
Now,
Just breathe and relax and think of your own metaphors for being you,
Or just take a moment to lie still and imagine all of these wonderfully different parts about being you.
As our meditation comes to a close,
Draw your attention back to your real body.
Notice and feel where your body is touching the floor or chair.
Wiggle your fingers.
Wiggle your toes.
Take a deep breath.
Now go ahead and stretch out your body in any way that feels good to you.
When you are ready,
Open your eyes.
Now go out and find the magic in your day.
