Find a comfortable position.
You can do this meditation in the morning before you begin your day.
Or at night,
As you wind down.
Allow yourself to settle.
Feel the surface beneath you.
Notice your breath.
And for these next few minutes,
There is nothing you need to do.
You don't need to be productive.
You don't need to solve anything.
You don't need to become anything to anyone.
You simply get to be here.
Take a slow breath in.
And breathe out.
Again,
Breathing in.
And out.
Letting go.
As you settle,
Begin to notice the way you see yourself.
Not to judge it,
Just to notice,
To bring awareness to how you talk to yourself.
What do you tend to notice first?
The things you didn't get done.
The things you wish were different.
The ways you think you could be doing better.
The changes in your body.
The places where you feel you've fallen short.
We can become so accustomed to looking at ourself through the lens of what needs fixing that we forget to see the whole person.
So for these next few moments,
Try looking at yourself through a different lens.
Not a lens of achievement.
Not a lens of appearance or productivity,
But simply through the lens of being human.
Before you accomplished anything.
Before you cared for anyone else.
Before you had a career.
Became a partner,
A parent,
A daughter,
A friend.
You were already worthy simply because you were born.
Simply because you are here.
You don't have to earn your worth.
You don't have to prove your worth.
You are worthy because you exist.
You are the only one on this whole planet that is like you.
With your unique makeup and your unique experiences,
You are truly one in a billion.
Now quietly say these words to yourself.
I am worthy because I exist.
Again,
Slowly.
I am worthy because I exist.
And noticed how that lands.
Maybe it feels comforting.
Maybe it feels unfamiliar.
Maybe a part of you resists it.
Maybe you don't feel anything at all.
There's no right way to feel.
You don't have to convince yourself of it today.
Simply allow yourself to practice the idea.
I am worthy because I exist.
If we take a minute to look at nature and its ecosystem.
Everything in nature has a role.
Mother Nature doesn't create anything unworthy.
And you,
My friend.
Are part of nature.
Take a slow breath and let those words settle.
I am worthy because I exist.
Your worth isn't something that increases when you succeed,
Or disappears when you struggle.
It isn't something you lose when your body changes.
It isn't something you have to prove.
You are worthy because you are here.
Now bring your attention to your body.
Rather than looking at your body for what you would change.
See if you can notice what it has given you.
Your legs that have carried you through thousands of days.
Your hands that have held,
Created,
Worked and cared.
Your heart that has continued beating through every chapter of your life.
Your lungs breathing without you having to ask them to.
Your body has been here for you through every change,
Every difficult season,
Every moment of joy.
See if you can begin to look at your body with appreciation rather than evaluation.
Not,
How does my body look?
What does my body allow me to experience?
Take a breath.
And offer yourself these words.
My body is strong.
My body is healthy.
My body is worthy of care.
My body deserves kindness.
Take another slow breath.
Now bring your attention back to yourself as a whole.
Think about the qualities within you that may be easy to overlook.
Your resilience,
Your humor,
Curiosity,
Your ability to love,
Ability to begin again,
Your willingness to keep learning,
Your capacity to care,
Your strength,
Your softness,
And your wisdom.
There may be parts of yourself that you have stopped noticing because they have become so familiar.
Take a moment to name one quality that you appreciate about yourself.
It doesn't have to be impressive.
Maybe you're thoughtful.
Maybe you're loyal.
Determined or make people laugh.
Maybe you keep going when things are difficult.
Maybe you're learning to say no.
Or maybe you're learning to say yes.
Whatever comes,
Let yourself acknowledge it.
You don't need anyone else to validate it.
You are allowed to recognize what is good in you.
Take a breath.
Imagine that you are beginning to see yourself through a kinder lens.
Not perfect,
Not endlessly positive.
Just kinder.
And when you make a mistake,
You can be curious instead of cruel.
And when your body changes,
You can meet it with compassion instead of criticism.
When you are tired,
You can listen instead of pushing through.
When you need something,
Can you allow that need to matter?
This is another way of loving yourself.
Not by convincing yourself that everything is wonderful all the time.
But by choosing not to abandon yourself when things are difficult.
Take a breath.
And quietly remind yourself.
I am on my own side.
My needs matter.
My feelings matter.
My life matters.
And perhaps most importantly,
I matter.
Not because of what I accomplished.
Not because of how I look or because of what I give to other people.
I matter because I am here.
Let yourself take a moment with that.
And as you move through your day or settle into your night,
See if you can carry this different way of seeing yourself with you.
Notice one small opportunity to appreciate yourself.
Maybe you catch yourself doing something well.
Maybe you notice your strengths.
Maybe you listen to your body.
Maybe you'll give yourself permission to rest.
Maybe you simply catch the moment where your inner voice becomes critical.
And choose a kinder response.
You don't have to transform the way you see yourself all at once.
You can begin with one small moment of recognition.
One kind thought.
One moment of listening.
One choice to stay on your own side.
Take a slow breath in.
And let it go.
Feel your body.
Or so.
Exactly as you are.
And remember.
.
.
You were worthy before you did anything to prove it.
You are worthy now.
And you will still be worthy on the days when you struggle.
You belong here.
You are allowed to take up space.
You are allowed to care for yourself.
And you are allowed to see the good in yourself.
And you are allowed to love the person that you are becoming without needing to reject the person you have been.
Say quietly to yourself.
One last time.
I am worthy because I exist.
And let that be enough for today.
When you are ready,
Gently return to your day.
Or allow yourself to direct into rest,
Carrying with you a little more kindness,
A little more appreciation,
And a new way of seeing yourself.
