As we begin,
Find a position that feels natural and comfortable for you.
If it feels right,
Then it is right.
Let your spine be straight yet relaxed and if you haven't already,
Gently close your eyes or soften your gaze.
Take a deep steady breath in and as you exhale slowly allow yourself to settle fully into this moment.
Just breathe and become aware.
Take a few grounding breaths together,
Allowing the body to settle exactly as it is.
No need to change anything,
No need to force anything,
Just arriving.
So breathing in slowly through the nose,
Feeling the air,
Feel the chest,
Maybe even down into the belly.
Excellent and breathing out gently,
Letting the shoulders soften,
Letting the body release.
Again,
Breathing in,
A calm steady inhale,
That's it and breathing out.
A little slower this time as if you're letting go,
Just a touch more,
That's it,
Excellent and one more.
Breathing in,
Bringing awareness fully into this moment and breathing out,
Softening,
Settling,
Arriving.
No control,
No effort,
Just here,
Just now.
So today we open the heart and allow love to flow,
No forcing,
No trying,
Just allowing.
Research from Wisconsin University,
Stanford University and Harvard Medical School shows that compassion and loving-kindness have real effects on the body.
Gently lowering stress hormones,
Balancing the rhythm of the heart and strengthening feelings of connection,
Safety and trust.
Also brain research,
Including work by Richard Davidson,
Shows that the fear centre of the brain becomes less active and the parts linked to calm,
Control and empathy become stronger.
This means love and compassion are not just feelings,
They are physical processes in the body.
They calm the nervous system,
Reduce stress and help the mind become clearer and more balanced.
And just as love supports the body,
Notice the opposite has an effect too.
In states like anger,
Hate,
Resentment,
Keep the body in stress.
They increase tension,
Raise stress hormones and keep the nervous system in protection.
Over time,
This clouds the mind,
Reduces clarity,
Reduces patience and affects how we respond to life.
These states may feel powerful but they do not serve us,
They do not bring clarity,
They do not bring balance,
They keep us reactive,
Disconnected.
But most importantly,
They affect us first,
Before anyone else.
This practice is not about ignoring these feelings,
It's about understanding them and choosing something different.
Choosing what supports the body,
What supports the mind,
From the mind,
Choosing love,
To breathing in,
Receive love,
Breathing out,
Gives love.
And as the breath slows,
The body begins to shift,
The heart rhythm becomes smoother,
More steady,
And this sends a signal to the brain that you are safe.
And when the body feels safe,
The mind naturally softens,
Becomes calmer,
Clearer,
Less reactive.
So breathing in,
Receive love,
Breathing out,
Gives love.
At the same time,
What we repeat,
We strengthen.
Each breath,
Each phrase,
Begins to shape new patterns,
Calm becomes more natural,
Compassion becomes more automatic,
And so on,
And so on,
And so on,
And so on.
Breathing in,
Receive love,
Breathing out,
Gives love.
Right here,
We begin to open the heart and allow love to flow.
First,
Coming back to the breath,
Letting it steady the body,
Balance the heart and calm the mind,
Second,
Opening to ourselves,
Allowing compassion inward,
Creating a sense of safety within,
And third,
Gently extending that outward to others and to life itself.
Because when compassion is felt,
Not just thought,
The body responds,
Stress begins to soften,
Connection begins to grow.
So this practice is simple,
Not powerful.
We are working with the breath,
The brain,
And the heart,
Together.
I invite you to silently say to yourself,
Breathing in,
I receive love.
Breathing out,
I give love.
Not just as words,
But something you feel with each breath,
With each moment,
Opening the heart and allowing love to flow.
So silently say to yourself again,
Breathing in,
I receive love.
Breathing out,
I give love.
Now,
Place your attention on your heart,
Feel the space in the center of your chest,
Just noticing what is there,
Just allowing.
So breathing in,
Breathing out.
Listen,
Not with the mind,
But with the heart itself,
A deeper listening,
A quieter knowing.
Build a steady rhythm within you,
A reminder,
You are here,
You are part of life.
You are not alone.
And from here,
Just allowing this space to include you,
Just as you are,
Nothing to fix,
Nothing to change,
Allow yourself to receive.
Because this is where it begins.
If there is no space for you,
There is no space for others.
Breathing in,
Receive love.
Breathing out,
Give love.
And including yourself in this,
Not outside,
But not after everyone else,
But here.
Worthy of the same compassion,
The same care.
Breathing in,
Receive love.
Breathing out,
Give love.
If all love can flow outward,
It must be allowed within,
Not forced,
Not earned,
But accepted.
So just for this moment,
Allow yourself to be exactly as you are.
No fixing,
No improving,
Just being.
And silently say to yourself,
Breathing in,
I receive love.
Breathing out,
I give love.
Because the way you meet yourself becomes the way you meet the world.
Silently say to yourself again,
Breathing in,
I receive love.
Breathing out,
I give love.
When compassion is allowed,
Something shifts.
The body softens,
The mind opens,
And we begin to respond instead of react.
Breathing in,
Receive love.
Breathing out,
Give love.
And from this place,
We become more steady,
More clear,
More present.
Not driven by reaction,
But grounded.
And from here,
Love begins to move.
Naturally,
Without effort,
Flowing through you and beyond you.
So let me say to yourself,
Breathing in,
I receive love.
Breathing out,
I give love.
As you continue to breathe naturally,
Feel the connection between yourself and all living beings.
The love in your heart is not separate.
You are part of this life.
To let that love expand to those around you,
To those you know,
And to those you don't know.
Breathing in,
Receive love.
Breathing out,
Give love.
That's it,
Let it continue to expand,
Without force,
Just naturally.
Breathing in,
Receiving love.
Breathing out,
Giving love.
As you rest in this awareness,
Let this love guide you,
Not something you think about,
But something you live.
Breathing in,
Taking in life.
Breathing out,
Allowing love to move through you.
Breathing in,
Receive love.
Breathing out,
Give love.
Breathing in,
Receiving love.
Breathing out,
Giving love.
As we come towards the end of this practice,
Aware of the love you've allowed to flow.
Stay with your breath,
Your body,
Your awareness,
Breathing naturally.
Receiving love and giving love.
And now,
Silently,
Allow yourself to believe in this love.
Breathing in,
I receive love.
Breathing out,
I give my love.
And silently say to yourself one more time,
And truly believe the meaning.
Breathing in,
I truly receive love.
Breathing out,
I truly give my love.
And as we move on from here,
Take this with you.
First,
Coming back to the breath.
Letting it steady the body,
Balance the heart and calm the mind.
And second,
Opening to yourself,
Allowing compassion inward,
Creating a sense of safety within.
And third,
Gently extending that outwards to others and to life itself.
Not something to force,
Just something to return to,
Again and again.
Just breathing,
Just here,
Just now.
You are loved,
And you are enough.
