If you'd like,
You can settle into any position that works for your body right now.
There's nothing to get right here,
Just an invitation to explore a little lightness.
Taking a slow breath in.
And a slow breath out.
Letting your body land however it wants to.
When you're ready,
I invite you to bring to mind a moment when you laughed.
It doesn't have to be a big laugh.
Just to time something genuinely amused you.
Staying with that moment now,
Who was there?
Noting faces,
Voices,
Expressions.
Where were you?
Maybe remembering the room,
The light,
The time of day.
What could you hear?
Laughter,
Background noise,
Music,
Silence.
Any smells?
Food.
Fresh air.
Rain.
Something familiar.
Any sensations in your body,
A lift in your cheeks,
A warmth in your chest,
A flutter in your belly,
Or simply the feeling of,
This was funny.
And if it feels okay,
You might let a little sound come forward.
Even just a soft,
Huh?
Ah,
Ha.
Or the shape of a smile without any sound at all.
Now we're going to make this moment just a little more ridiculous.
You might imagine that everyone in this scene is actually an alien from outer space.
Wearing a not-very-convincing human costume.
Bye.
Or maybe in this memory,
It suddenly starts raining.
But the rain is purple or glittery or it falls upward instead of down.
Ha ha ha.
You could imagine the objects in the room quietly scooting around when no one's looking.
Or everyone speaking in slow motion.
Or with cartoon sound effects.
Let your mind add one small,
Strange detail.
And then,
If you'd like,
Another.
Ah!
Seeing how that shifts the scene and noticing what happens in your body as you do.
If a smile wants to come,
You can let it.
If a little laughter bubbles up,
You can allow it.
And if nothing changes,
That's completely okay too.
This practice is the invitation,
Not the outcome.
Now we're going to take another breath in.
And out.
Staying with whatever is here,
Amusement,
Neutrality,
Or anything else.
Knowing you can return to this memory or to another funny moment and gently turn up the silliness whenever you want a bit of lightness.
And when you feel ready,
You can let the scene fade.
Bringing your attention back to your body as it is right now.
And then to the room around you.
Maybe making a small movement,
A stretch,
A wiggle,
A shift,
And continuing on with your day,
Carrying even a tiny thread of that playfulness with you.
