Have you ever noticed this?
You lie down in bed at night.
Everything around you is quiet,
But your mind just keeps going.
One thought ends,
Another thought begins,
Then another.
You replay conversations,
You imagine problems,
You think about tomorrow,
And sometimes you wonder,
Why can't my mind just be quiet?
Today I want to share a short story about this.
There was a man who had a good life,
A decent job,
A caring family,
No major problems.
But there was one thing he couldn't control,
His mind.
At work,
He worried about the future.
At home,
He kept thinking about work.
At night,
When he tried to sleep,
His mind replayed the entire day.
What if I said the wrong thing?
What if something goes wrong tomorrow?
What if I fail?
The thoughts just wouldn't stop.
One day,
Feeling exhausted,
He decided to visit a wise coach.
He said,
My mind never stops thinking.
I have tried everything.
What should I do?
The coach smiled and said something unexpected.
Your mind is not the problem.
The man looked confused.
If my mind isn't the problem,
Then what is?
The coach said,
The problem is that you are fighting your thoughts.
The coach explained,
Every time a thought appears,
You try to stop it,
But the mind works in a strange way.
The more you try to push a thought away,
The stronger it becomes.
Then he said something simple.
Thoughts are not the problem.
The problem is chasing every thought.
The man asked,
So what should I do?
The coach replied,
Just watch them.
And that's what today's meditation is about.
You are not going to stop your thoughts.
You are not going to control them.
You are simply going to observe them,
Like clouds passing in the sky.
If you did like to follow along,
Find a comfortable place to sit.
Keep your back straight,
But relax your body.
And if it feels comfortable,
Gently close your eyes.
Take a slow deep breath in.
And gently breathe out.
Slow breathe in.
And slowly breathe out.
Just notice your breathing.
The air moving in.
There is nothing you need to change.
Just observe.
Sooner or later,
A thought will appear in your mind.
Maybe about something that happened today.
Maybe about tomorrow.
When it happens,
Don't try to stop it.
Simply notice it.
Imagine you are standing beside a road.
And thoughts are like cars passing by.
You don't chase every car.
You simply watch them pass.
Then gently bring your attention back to your breath.
Each time a thought appears,
Just silently say to yourself.
That's just a thought.
And allow it to pass.
Then return your attention to your breath.
And breathing out.
Allow your mind to slowly settle.
Now,
Slowly bring your awareness back to your body.
Feel the space around you.
Take one deep breath in.
And slowly breathe out.
Gently open your eyes.
You can practice this for just a few minutes every day.
At first,
Your thoughts will still be loud and busy.
But slowly,
You will notice something important.
The thoughts keep appearing.
But you don't need to follow them.
And one day you will realize something more powerful.
That you are not your thoughts.
And that realization will bring you peace you are searching for.
Peace doesn't come when thoughts disappear.
Peace comes when you stop believing.
That every thought needs your attention.
Sometimes,
Awareness alone is enough to quiet the mind.
