Many people are told they need to manage their pain.
They are given strategies to cope.
Push through.
Or distract themselves.
But over time,
A lot of people notice something important.
Managing Pain is not the same as healing.
Pain management often focuses on controlling symptoms.
It can be helpful in certain situations,
Especially short term.
But when pain becomes chronic or unresolved.
Management alone can start to feel exhausting.
I know,
Because I have been there.
People often tell me they feel like they are constantly working.
Around their pain instead of understanding it.
Healing asks a different question.
Instead of asking,
How do I live with this?
It asks,
What is my body asking for?
Healing focuses on regulation.
Safety.
And support.
Especially within the nervous system.
This doesn't mean.
Forcing change.
It means creating.
The conditions where change becomes possible.
When the nervous system stays in protection mode.
Pain often persists.
I definitely know this firsthand,
Dealing with chronic cluster migraines for all those years and then losing sensation on the right side of my body,
Losing vision.
All the things.
I was just in so much pain.
That it just was trying to protect me and I was ignoring it,
Right?
So there were a lot of signs that I just chose to ignore and the nervous system wanted to stay in protection mode and kept me in that heightened state of pain.
So managing pain without addressing the nervous system can sometimes reinforce that protection.
Because when we are in pain,
It definitely affects our emotional state and our mental health.
It can cause us to feel heightened sense of anxiety,
High levels of stress.
Far worse than what we deem as normal stresses.
And it creates.
Excess strain on our body and our emotional well-being,
As well as our relationships and how we interact in the world.
In my work,
Recovery begins when the body no longer feels like it has to defend itself.
This is word gentle.
Body-led approaches become so important.
Pain management isn't wrong.
But for many people,
It's incomplete.
Healing invites listening.
Patience.
And trust in the body's intelligence.
In future episodes.
We'll continue exploring how pain patterns form.
And how recovery becomes possible.
When the body feels supported.
Thank you so much for being here.
