In this meditation we will be using 'Preemptive Nostalgia' to become grateful for the life we are living today. Someday, as we age, we will likely look back on the things that we take for granted right now. This practice is a simple reframe to help you be more present in your daily life.

Okay,

Good morning.

Welcome to your five-minute morning gratitude meditation.

I think today we're gonna try something a little bit different.

Maybe you could call this the nostalgia meditation or maybe even more aptly named the pre-emptive nostalgia meditation.

So we're gonna go at gratitude from a little bit of a different angle today.

So first of all,

Let me just try to arrive all at once.

You know what it's like to be present.

So let's just arrive all at once and let's just let go of all the stuff that's calling us forward into the day.

Again,

It's not going anywhere.

So take a seat,

You know,

Sit up straight.

We want you to be both relaxed and alert at the same time.

So just get comfortable in your seat.

Feel yourself in the seat.

Hear the sounds that are going on around you and just sort of relax into the moment now.

Begin by breathing deeply,

Deep inhale,

Deep exhale.

Just arriving right here.

Now,

Once you feel that you've really arrived for this session,

I want you to project yourself forward 10,

20,

30,

Even 40 years into the future.

I want you to just sort of reflect on the fact that a lot of the things that today you might feel like the mundane trivialities of life are things that we're likely to look back on longingly at some time in the future.

It could be our relationships with our partners or our children or co-workers or close friends.

It could be our job.

It could be school.

Whatever it is that you're about to have to deal with today,

There's a strong possibility that at some point off into the distance you're gonna look back on this and with fond memory.

This is the life that we will someday miss and someday be nostalgic for.

You know,

Kids making a mess or work being really challenging or the sweetness of the relationships in our life.

Someday we're gonna look back on this and we're gonna miss it.

You just breathe into that possibility and as you breathe into that just walk yourself through how can I be 10% more present,

Awake,

And grateful as I navigate these things today?

Why don't you just breathe into that?

How could I show up for my life as if I'm gonna miss it someday?

Just breathe into that for a minute.

Thanks for stopping by this morning.

It's a short meditation but it can be a short and simple and sweet little reframe before we start our day.

Before we go racing out in the world to put out all the fires and whatever that's awaiting us.
