I'm Dr Kim.
There's a little rock bar here in Chiang Mai that has become my favourite place in the entire city.
It's kind of funny because I don't even really like rock music,
But there's this one band that quite literally changed my life.
A friend took me to the bar about a year ago.
The first time I saw them,
I was completely stunned.
They were playing a rock cover of Taylor Swift's Back to December and the sound penetrated straight into my soul.
We got a table and I was sat,
Completely captivated for the next few hours.
As they continued their set,
I could feel the energy swirling through the room,
Rising up past the roof and spilling out into the city.
The lead singer,
A Thai woman with blonde-tipped hair and a flannel shirt,
Had the strongest aura I'd ever felt.
I knew she was powerful beyond measure.
And at one point on that first night,
I found myself moved to tears because I was so touched.
Imagine that,
Crying in a little rock bar whilst listening to covers of Linkin Park.
But I can tell you,
It was a profound spiritual experience.
Since that night,
I've gone to see them perform almost every week.
Every time I go,
I feel awe.
I watch the lead guitarist losing himself in his craft,
The singer pouring her heart into every note,
The drummer completely in the zone and I can feel that energy run through my whole body like electricity through my soul.
Being there reminds me what life is truly about,
Because what I see on that stage is pure creation.
These musicians have spent years perfecting their craft.
They perform four nights a week on a tiny stage in a small city in northern Thailand,
For almost no pay.
And yet they keep showing up,
Heart open,
Guitars blazing,
Pouring everything they have into their art.
They do it because they love it,
Because something in them has to create.
As an outsider watching them,
It is so clear that this is their purpose.
And that to me is success.
Not the financial success the world measures,
But the kind the soul recognises.
Sometimes I think about how different their lives might have been if they were born into families like mine that didn't support their art.
Parents that said,
You'll be a starving artist if you continue with music,
Get an office job instead.
It breaks my heart because I know so many people who were conditioned into living lives they never truly wanted.
Now I bring friends to the bar and we always tip generously.
Not out of pity,
But to honour what they give.
Sheer inspiration.
I want them to know that I see them.
Their passion,
Their energy,
Their courage.
And it feels so good to give something back.
The other day,
I realised that their work kind of mirrors mine here on Insight Timer.
A year ago when I began sharing my teachings here,
I didn't plan anything.
I didn't think about profit or sustainability.
I just had this deep desire to share what had helped me because I wanted it to help others too.
Before Insight Timer,
I'd tried the business way.
Selling online courses,
Setting up funnels,
All of that,
And it felt so heavy and so wrong for me.
I realised my purpose isn't to sell,
It's to give,
To share more freely.
And somehow when I started doing that,
Abundance found me.
Donations began to come in.
Clients appeared.
And those clients referred their loved ones to me.
Even though I was making less money on paper,
I felt more abundant than ever before because I was finally aligned.
The universe then provided me with more physical and financial safety so that I could give more.
I'm cared for.
I don't have to worry.
And that safety allows me to share from my heart generously and without fear.
It was a relief.
No more content creating just for the purpose of selling something.
No more gatekeeping knowledge.
I now trust that by sharing more freely,
Those who need me will find me and those who want to show appreciation will find their own way to do it.
When I look at my favourite band,
I see this same truth.
When you create from love,
When you give from your heart without attachment to the outcome,
The universe finds ways to take care of you.
Just as I take care of them,
Tipping,
Inviting friends,
Helping their audience grow,
The same happens for me.
The people who value my work share it with others.
They become part of the ripple effect.
I believe this is the real reward of living your purpose.
It's not about fame or wealth.
It's about alignment,
Connection and the quiet joy of knowing you're doing what you came here to do.

Follow your purpose.
Give what's inside you to give.
The universe wants to support you.
It just needs you to begin.
Because there is a reward for listening to your soul.
It might not be the reward of wealth that society tells us to chase.
It's more the reward of living with your heart open,
Creating for love and letting that love ripple outwards to touch everyone around you.
