There's an animal that survives by disappearing,
Not running,
Not fighting,
Just going still Its body slows,
Its breath steadies,
Its whole system shuts down just enough so that nothing comes after it.
It doesn't decide this,
It doesn't think it through.
Its body just knows,
This is how I stay safe.
And that's exactly what you do too.
Not on the outside,
On the outside you're still there,
Talking,
Responding,
But something in you goes still.
You pull back and what's true stays unsaid.
Not because you don't know,
But because something in you learned.
This is how I stay safe too.
And it works.
The moment moves on and you're already gone from it,
But right now,
You can feel it.
You can feel that moment,
Something in you starts to shift.
Your body moves before you catch it.
And this is the moment you usually leave.
Feel how little it takes to leave yourself right there.
And right there,
Something real rises in you.
Something that's clear,
Immediate,
And true.
But just as quickly as it came,
You move around it.
You reshape it into something easier to carry.
Something that won't change anything.
Something that won't cost you anything,
Let alone your safety.
And it keeps working.
And although you can feel what's true in you,
The part of you that doesn't want to hold back,
But you step away from that,
You shrink and duck yourself out of it.
Because at some point,
It didn't feel safe,
So you don't stay.
And if you don't stay,
You leave.
So all this time,
You thought you were keeping things intact.
Keeping the moment easy.
Keeping anything from going wrong.
But what you really were doing was leaving yourself out of it.
And as a result,
The part you kept protecting is the part that never got to be there.
You didn't lose yourself,
My friend.
You left.
May your mind,
Body,
And spirit be abundant with peace and anchored in your ability to remain today and every day.
Until next time,
Namaste.
