Welcome to Meditation for Beginners with J.

Uggen.

So first of all,

Find a comfortable position,

Whether you're sitting down or lying down.

And take a breath.

Now the first thing when we meditate is to be aware of our breath.

Focus on that first few breaths.

As it comes in and as it comes out.

It's totally normal for our thoughts to be wondering.

If that's happening,

Then don't pay them any attention.

Just be aware that they are there and continue breathing in and breathing out.

So just sit with those two concepts for a minute.

Breathing in and breathing out.

It's totally normal to have thoughts about what we are going to be doing today or what that person said.

Or we might have some worries about tomorrow or further into the future or past.

And this is all totally normal.

Keep coming back to breath and keeping our awareness on the breath coming in and the breath coming out.

Now the third thing that I'm going to bring in to our awareness is the sensation of where we are sitting or lying down.

So if you're laying down,

Maybe you can feel the yoga mat on the bottom of your legs.

Whatever comes into contact with your body,

Have awareness with that too.

If there's any pain,

Then just breathe in and breathe out.

So breathe in to the sensation of pain and when you breathe out,

Have acceptance.

Now as we go on throughout our day,

We can have awareness with our breath in and out.

And whatever thoughts come up,

We can realize that they are just thoughts.

What is important is that we have our breath and it is always going on.

It was with us when we were born and it is with us now.
