I'd like to talk about a quote that I put up recently on my social media and maybe explain it a little more.
It's interesting to me where I heard the quote and then how I expanded upon it personally.
I was listening to a podcast with Jimmy Carr,
Who's a really well thought out comedian who really has some interesting takes on life.
He said something in the podcast where he said,
Good is the enemy of best.
His reference for it was,
He had a job,
He had a girlfriend at the time back in the day,
And he decided at that time that he wanted to pursue comedy.
His explanation was,
I could have had a great life.
I could have lived near my parents.
I could have married this wonderful woman,
Had a family,
Kept my nine to five job.
And instead he chose to chase his dream of comedy and now what he says,
It's his best life.
I don't love the word best because a lot of people on this planet think that having a family and a nine to five job and all that kind of life is their best and the version of whatever best is for them.
So everybody's best is not their best.
It's how can I live with the most joy in my life?
So I kind of reframed it in a way of content is the enemy of gratitude.
And what I mean by that is to me,
Content is stale,
It's safe,
It's stuck,
It's,
Ah,
Life is good.
How are you doing?
I'm doing good.
That's content to me.
Whereas gratitude is what brings us out of content because it brings us a way of interacting with the world that really helps us to grow.
And we're human beings that are meant to grow.
We're not meant to be stale.
And there's so many studies on this.
I just recently read a book about how so many people that are seekers,
Thomas Edison,
Albert Einstein,
All these different people,
They lived into their eighties and nineties because they were seeking,
They were growing,
They had a mission.
And I also just,
Interestingly enough,
Listened or watched that podcast on all the blue zones in the world and how these people are living to 100,
105.
And every single one of them has a purpose and has something that they're doing every day and they're seeking.
And I do believe that human beings,
We need that.
And again,
You don't have to seek.
If you're content with your life and seeking is just being the best parent you can be,
Being the best employee,
I'm not saying that that's bad.
I just know that when we have purpose and we seek and we are grateful for what it is that we have,
Then we're growing.
And what happens when we start with these micro-gratitudes where I'm grateful for this water,
I'm grateful for the roof over my head,
Then the gratitudes get bigger and get deeper.
I'm grateful for this healthy child.
I'm grateful for this lovely partner.
And we grow this gratitude.
And the more we interact with the world with gratitude,
The more the gratitude rises.
And it brings new things into your life that are more in alignment because you're growing in the gratitude.
And then what we do is we uncreate to create.
So we're leaving space for new things to move into your life.
And what you're doing is you're listening to your body and the gratitude is in alignment with who you are and what you believe.
And your beliefs are going to change.
Your ideas are going to change.
And when you're in a space of gratitude,
Things flow to you and you can take more chances.
You can show up in the world in a space where it just oozes out of you,
Where if somebody were to say to you,
How are you doing?
And if you were performing,
You'd go,
I'm great.
But it's not authentic.
It's not congruent with how you're feeling energetically.
But if you were to look at somebody and you truly were grateful,
And if somebody said,
How are you doing today?
And you said to them,
You know,
I am doing really,
Really well.
I am so grateful to be here with you today.
I'm so grateful for the last couple of days.
Let me tell you about some of the things that have been happening.
Or you can show up and say,
You know,
I'm doing really well and I'm doing my best.
It's been a real struggle these last few days,
But I'm just really grateful that I made it through and I get to be here with you.
Those are the same thing.
They're truth.
They're truth to how you're showing up in that moment and how you're honoring your emotions and honoring your body,
Honoring your emotions and honoring your body.
And if you are in alignment with those two things and you speak your truth with gratitude,
We can be grateful for the hard things in life.
We can be grateful for the suffering.
I know that's not a popular thing to say,
But usually if we approach every little thing with gratitude,
Something shows up that helps us grow,
Helps us learn.
And then we move into a new space where something can move into that space where that other thing left.
You know,
I remember an interesting moment in my life where I was sitting in a auto repair shop because I just got a brand new car,
It wasn't brand new,
But it was a relatively new car,
Used car.
And I was driving around in Nashville and Nashville is notorious for potholes.
So if you come to Nashville,
You're going to be dodging potholes.
And I hit a pothole and I cracked the rim of my tire and was so frustrated because I just gotten it.
And I was sitting in this auto repair place and instead of walking in and acting with frustration,
I really came with a sense of gratitude.
And I said,
Hey,
I know that you guys are busy,
But I just really need to get this fixed.
And the lady was so kind.
And I just was in a season of really feeling gratitude and all of that beautiful energy.
And I sat down and I was there for about two and a half hours.
And it just so happens that I was swiping on the dating apps during that time.
And the partner that I have now was on the apps while I was sitting there waiting for my car.
And the story goes with that is she was in New York City and she was so frustrated with her rent.
She was looking,
She had her location in Nashville and she only had it in Nashville for like a few hours.
And it just so happened that I was sitting on that couch waiting for my car to get repaired when her profile popped up.
And I just,
I was like,
Okay,
That's it.
That's the person.
And I see the rest of my life with this person.
And would I have ever met that person had I not hit the pothole?
I don't know.
Maybe,
Maybe not.
I'm not sure.
But approaching that situation with grace and kindness and gratitude for this thing that's happening that could be really,
Really frustrating and don't get me wrong.
I was really frustrated and pissed off.
I allowed myself to feel that.
And I said,
This is not going to get this fixed.
And then in that moment,
I met the person that I am going to spend the rest of my life with.
And to me,
That's a lesson.
And I get a lot of those all the time.
Sometimes when I'm not in that space of gratitude and I'm not showing up with that,
The opposite happens.
And I'm being met with that energy that I'm putting out.
So gratitude is truly the moving energy to growth.
And again,
I'm going to say it one more time.
If good is the enemy of best,
Then to me,
Content is the enemy of gratitude.
So ask yourself,
Are you content right now?
Are you in a space of stasis?
Are you in a space of stuckness?
Both of those are different,
I know.
But are you truly in a space of gratitude?
Because that's the first key,
In my opinion,
To growth and to a more authentic self.
We need people on this planet that are moving to a more authentic self.
So show up with gratitude,
And you're going to see your whole world change.
Peace and love.
