It is very easy to get caught up in our thoughts.
Many of us stay that way.
Let's take a few minutes to try to take a few steps back from our thoughts.
Find a comfortable spot and close your eyes.
Let's focus on our breath for a second.
Try silently saying the word rising when you breathe in and the word falling when you breathe out.
Try to really focus all of your attention into where you feel the breath.
Now,
Notice if your mind is thinking.
Are the thoughts swirling around or are they kind of streaming through?
Do you feel like you're in the middle of the thoughts or are they rushing by?
When I'm observing my thoughts,
They usually start almost like I'm in a stream and they're rushing by all around me.
If I'm able to notice this,
I can usually get some distance from them.
See if you're able to create some distance from your thoughts.
Take a step back from them.
Even if it's just a step or two,
It'll be a big help.
Take some time to let them just go by.
They will if you let them.
If a thought grabs your attention,
Let it.
And then refocus your attention on letting the stream of thoughts pass and creating some distance from them.
If this is tough for you,
Feel free to place your attention back on your breath.
So.
This practice can be tough at first,
So don't get discouraged if this is difficult for you.
Just the effort can create some space,
And that's progress.
Do this practice as often as you need.
Now slowly open your eyes and end the practice.
Try to remember the space that you created through the day.
Thanks for practicing with me.
