Everything changes.

Nothing stays the same.

Look at you.

You were once just a little baby.

And now on the inside it feels like you're a grown-up.

Things happen that you can't really understand.

People,

Animals,

Sometimes even homes that you love change.

I once had a grandma who didn't even recognise me when I went to visit her.

People go away.

I bet some of you out there had a really best friend who understood you completely.

Who's gone to live somewhere else.

Pets die.

People die.

Sometimes it's hard to understand why.

And the emotions inside you swirl and expand.

There's so much that none of us can understand.

Swirl and expand.

There's so much that none of us can ever understand.

It's like falling into a big empty hole.

Who knows what they mean when they say it hurts to your soul.

I just always think it was nice when things were the same.

And you could see the people you loved again and again.

Or your favourite pet just looked excited to see you.

It made you feel special just by being you.

And now when these tears go running down your face and you know inside you you've got left an empty space.

You don't know what to do or how to get out.

You wonder if it would be better if you just screamed and let out a great big shout.

But it gets lost going around on the inside of your brain and down in your stomach your feelings seem to drain.

And it's as if quicksand has got hold of you again.

But you still have the memories of all the things you knew.

Of how the space they held within you grew and grew.

Of how the experiences you had made you so glad.

And somewhere the little memories don't make you feel quite so mad.

You

So powerful. So authentic. Thank you. Our family is very open to sadness and grief, and our 8yo daughter doesn't seem able to process them (especially after her pet chicken died). We will play this for her, and we will package it with lots of conversation and connection.

This is great for kids. I run Seasons for Growth groups in schools and this would be a perfect accompaniment to this program. Thanks.
