Letting Go
Like waves from the sea washing debris onto the shoreline, stress comes into our lives in waves. But the power of a wave is that it can also wash away debris ... and this meditation is designed to do the same.

Hello friend,
This is Kaya from the MetaMovement and today's meditation is all about letting go.
So find a comfortable spot where you can sit in stillness,
Where you won't be disturbed.
It doesn't matter where,
On the sofa,
In your bed,
A chair,
Even just sitting on the floor.
Cross your legs or keep them straight.
It doesn't matter,
Just as long as you're comfortable.
Because letting go is all about finding comfort in release.
It's about shedding the weight of your daily stresses,
The deadlines,
The traffic jams,
Finances,
Demanding bosses,
Family life,
Schoolwork.
All the pressures of your day can just keep building up inside of you.
And if you don't find release,
An explosion is very likely.
So let's start by taking a deep cleansing breath.
Breathe in through your nose.
Hold it.
And release.
Let's do that one more time.
Inhale through your nose.
Hold.
And release.
Take another deep breath.
And as you inhale,
Let your eyes slowly close.
Keep following your breath as it flows in through your nose,
As it moves down your throat and into your lungs.
And follow it as it moves back out of you.
Back up your throat and out through your nose.
Just keep following your breath,
Witnessing it.
We bring stress into our bodies and waves,
Much like the ocean depositing debris on the shoreline.
But the power of a wave is that it can also carry the debris away.
So let's use the power of that wave to carry away all the debris that's weighing you down.
If you'd like,
You can even place your hand over your heart as you breathe in.
And feel a wave of love wash into your heart.
Let it fill you up.
And as you exhale,
Let that wave flow out,
Pure love.
Let's do that again.
Take another long,
Slow,
Deep breath in.
Feel another wave of love wash into your heart.
Clench your heart with pure love.
And as you exhale,
Let it carry away a piece of debris from your day.
Something that's stressing you out.
Picture that stress flowing out of you as you let that breath go.
Take in another wave of pure love as you breathe in.
Let it cleanse your heart.
Flow out another piece of stress debris,
Whatever it is that's stressing you.
Let it go.
Take in another deep breath,
Sending a wave of pure love into your heart.
Feel that wave of love fill you up.
And as that wave flows out,
Let it carry one more piece of your stress.
Feel it wash away.
Let's take it even deeper.
Picture someone who hurt you in the past,
Someone who caused you pain.
Remember that hurt as you breathe in pure love,
Letting that wave wash into your heart and fill you up.
And as you exhale,
Let that wave carry forgiveness back out to that person.
Your heart is feeling lighter now,
So much lighter with that debris of that pain.
So let's do it again.
This time,
Picture someone who made you angry.
Maybe it's someone you know really well.
Maybe it's a faceless driver who cut you off on the highway.
Breathe in as a wave of pure love washes into your heart and fills it up.
And as you slowly exhale,
That wave carries forgiveness out to this person.
Anger is washed away.
Now think of someone who you envy.
Maybe it's because they have something you want.
And breathe in as a wave of pure love fills your heart.
And as you breathe it out,
Let a wave of happiness for that person wash back out to them.
It's a wave of unfiltered joy that this person has what they have.
Don't you feel lighter now?
Let's take another deep breath.
Let a wave of love fill your heart.
And as you exhale it,
Let that wave carry contentment for what you do have out into the world.
Now think of something you regret doing or saying.
Something that's weighed on you for way too long.
And on your next breath,
Let a wave of pure love fill your heart.
It fills your heart,
Spills over the sides,
Filling your whole being with love,
Every cell in your body.
And as you slowly exhale,
Let that wave carry love and forgiveness to yourself.
Let it wash away that regret.
It's gone now.
It's washed back out to sea and you're free of it.
Take in a deep breath of that liberation from regret.
That pure unfiltered love for yourself.
Let it fill you up.
And when you exhale,
Let that love wash out to the world,
To the universe.
You're cleansed of stress and pain.
Free of anger and resentment and regret.
So take in another deep breath of pure love and let it fill your heart.
And breathe it back out again.
Breathe out a wave of pure love.
The world is filled with it now.
So let's spend a few minutes in stillness.
Let's meditate on that inner calm that fills every cell in your body.
We're going to use the mantra shanti.
Shanti.
The Sanskrit word for peace,
For tranquility.
Just gently,
Silently repeat the mantra shanti.
Let it float at the edge of your attention ever so lightly.
You may drift into thoughts.
That's perfectly normal.
Just gently drift back to the mantra shanti.
I'll mind the time as the music fades into the ether.
And when I sound the chime,
Just continue to sit with your eyes closed in stillness.
Are you ready?
Let's begin.
Shanti.
Shanti.
Shanti.
Shanti.
Shanti.
Shanti.
Shanti.
Shanti.
Shanti.
Shanti.
Shanti.
Shanti.
Just sit in silence with your eyes closed.
Let the serenity vibrate through your body.
Don't you feel lighter with all that debris you've been carrying washed back out to sea?
Anytime you feel weighed down by it,
You can just return to this meditation and let the waves clear away the debris of your life.
So let's just take another long,
Slow,
Deep breath in.
And let it go.
One more time.
A long,
Slow,
Deep breath in.
And as you release it,
Slowly open your eyes.
Take a look around.
Look at how much lighter and brighter your world is now that you've freed yourself of that debris.
I'm Kaya Donohue from the Metta Movement.
Namaste.
