Lying down comfortably in a darkened room begin to relax your body allow yourself to sink into the floor or the bed the surface you're lying on become aware of your breathing and allow yourself to come into a state of deep relaxation feeling heavy your eyes closed allowing yourself to surrender to the darkness and as you're lying here I want you to imagine a person in your life who you've been struggling with someone who's challenged you someone who you're on difficult terms with or someone who you no longer need in your life anymore bring that person to mind as though they're right in front of you now imagine there's a chord going from your umbilicus to theirs you can see the substance of this chord it may be black and rubbery it may be rope-like just feel that chord connecting you with this other person feel that connection and know that you are ready to detach prepare yourself to detach from this person in loving kindness as you reach to your side and take an imaginary knife in your hand a knife suitable to the task of cutting through your chord bring the knife to the chord and begin to cut cut at the chord until you and the other person are fully detached let them go let them go and live their life leaving you to live yours and as you allow them to leave your consciousness feel yourself bathed in white light feel how much lighter you are for having let them go how much freer breathe deeply into that feeling and when you're ready take a deep breath to end the meditation
