Distant Melodrone
In music, we call "drone" (or "bourdon", from the French term) one or more strings or reeds which always vibrate on the same note or form a continuous chord (Hurdy-gurdy, harmonium, etc.), with the tonic or the dominant of the scale used in the piece being performed. From India to Europe: The drone is the foundation of Indian music, Ravi Shankar for example in ragas, the drone being created, most of the time, with a tampoura or a harmonium. It is also found in popular music throughout Europe.
