The second of four Meditations for Troubled Times, originally published as a response to the pandemic. Each meditation speaks to a quality of the human soul when confronted with the struggle to find the path to tread through life's hardest times. ’Slow Down’ encourages a stepping away from the jostle of everyday cares with a wholly different tempo.

Be still and let nothing be going on.

For is it given to us to see the grass as it grows?

Be still and let nothing be going on.

Did you watch the mountain as it was forming,

As it reforms?

Be still and let nothing be going on.

Nature has its own pace,

And we can be its ally or we can rebel.

But for now,

We will listen and be in harmony.

Be aware of your breathing.

In the pause between the in-breath and the out-breath,

Feel the stillness,

The between.

Between breathing in for renewal,

Breathing out for repose.

Draw in the long air of sustenance.

Release gently the air of tranquility.

Go slowly,

Stepping to the planet's rhythm.

Be still.

Be still.

Be still.

The long grass waves in the passing breeze.

The sunflowers turn to the circling sun.

The century stags stands watchful as the herd grays.

We can carry the feeling of these with us when we are ready to return to our world.
