Poetry can open us to a depth of emotion, insight, and sensation that is rare in modern life. Who could we become if we weren't tethered to our devices for 61 to 80 days per year, which research shows is the average smartphone user's screen time? This is the opening poem of my book The Power in Your Hands. For me, writing this poem was much more meaningful than simply scribing a set of stanzas, lines, and words; it was an invocation, a grief ceremony, a beacon of hope, a field of possibility.
