Sound Bath Sessions 239: Nicole Lee
Nicole mentioned that she wanted to record at the West Kowloon Art Park. I told her the only way we could get a good recording there was if we record early in the morning, before the construction and people traffic begin. It was still dark at 5 am when we met, and after a while, we found a place right across from the Central piers. It was quiet with a few early risers chatting and doing their morning tai chi workout. I closed my eyes when in the dark and opened them in light. The track starts with a man counting down his exercise moves. It was quiet, the birds not yet awake. The low rumble of the passing boats swallowed all sound but its heavy beating complemented the bowls' gentle heartbeats. When we finished our recording, the sun had risen and the Hong Kong skyline towering over us from across the water was absolutely beautiful against the soft blue sky. It felt like a different world.
