Sound Bath Sessions 038: Grace Chen
Grace and I took the 6am ferry to Mui Wo just before dawn on a warm early November day. A short walk from the dock, the silver mine waterfall was small, with a big sound. We settled on a rock in the middle of the stream and I placed the microphone closer to Grace to make sure I could hear the delicate sounds of the lyre over the crashing waters. The waterfall provided a thick bed of white noise for her sounds to float in and out of the track. All context of place was swallowed by the noise save the occasional bird noises at both ends of the recording. The track sounds hopeful and fresh, complementing the cool early morning. The creeping sun over the surrounding mountains of Lantau pushed breezes that caressed my cheek and filled my lungs. Goosebumps on my arm. Grace pauses several times in her song to take in her surroundings to breath the air, feel the sun, and be in the presence of nature.
