Sound Bath Sessions 214: Sayuri Yanagawa
I recorded Sayuri in her apartment near the Sakurajosui station. Her friend wanted to have a sound bath and her husband was there to take photos. Her apartment was such a great space as there was so much sound that created the experience. The ticking clock, rustling leaves through the open window, airplanes, and passing trains. The scene was just so grounding and familiar with each element perfectly on cue. I love how she incorporates the outside sounds as part of her sessions. Her bowls have a very comfortable modulation tempo, not too fast, not too slow. Her playing is patient and thoughtful. Sayuri played 1 crystal bowls and 5 metal bowls for this piece. Her style is very minimal, slow, and steady urging you to listen beyond the space. It was as if her sound was the background to the sounds of life outside, not the other way around.
