Today we're talking about what matters to you.
Whatever happened in the past,
Whatever pain you've experienced or caused,
Let that go.
You can only be who you are with your current understanding.
Let the past go and start from now.
Focus on what brings meaning to your life.
Figure out what matters to you and move in that direction.
Let go of the old tethers,
The universe.
This teaching reminds me a lot of the really famous Mary Oliver,
What Will You Do With Your One Wild and Precious Life.
This lifetime is,
You know,
Yes,
Yes we have many lifetimes,
Past lifetimes,
Future lifetimes.
Yes,
We are infinite soul and this lifetime is really,
You know,
It's really a gift.
It's really yours for the experiencing and if you're not doing what you find meaningful and if you're not doing what matters to you,
It's time to really look at shifting that.
All the people that sort of are people that we think of as people that made,
You know,
A name for themselves or maybe that's not,
Maybe they contributed greatly to the world.
They were people that we look up to now or they seem heroic or they just lived a life that seems really fulfilling and really is setting an example for others and this could be people that they might be famous,
They might be like influencers or celebrities or politicians or leaders or they might be just super regular people.
There's a man,
I usually walk or ride my bike at this park pretty much almost daily and there's this man who's probably,
You know,
Late 70s and every time I'm there,
He's there and he's running.
He's running and he's quite older and there he is doing his practice and I just find that super admirable and super inspirational.
He's doing what matters to him at a time when many people his age aren't doing anything along those lines.
They're just not exercising or not getting outside and so for him that's important.
Other people I know,
I know another woman who takes photography of nature and you know she doesn't have a book of her photography.
She's not well known and yet she's out there,
I don't know how much,
But she's out there I would guess most days taking this exquisite photography of nature and again it's really inspiring to see someone doing what matters to them.
So look about yourself and discover what matters.
You know we tend to get incredibly addicted to social media and news feeds and being out and about and being distracted which of course at the time of this recording,
The Great Shutdown,
A lot of us have been forced to slow down from that.
So it's a great time to look around and see what matters to you.
Maybe you have a particular interest that really makes you feel amazing when you are exploring that.
Maybe there's a course of study that you feel you know just deeply called to.
Maybe you know your focus right now is on raising your family or on helping your family.
The thing is to take a look at what matters to you and then figure out what matters to you and move in that direction.
Let go of the old tethers and for a lot of you the the tethers are other people's expectations,
Other people's ideas of how you're here to live,
The distractions of society which are often the social media,
Celebrity following,
Etc.
News,
Fake news and also all the distractions you know we're doing,
My friend group is doing this and I'm gonna do it too and maybe that matters to you or maybe you're just going along because you can't figure out what else to do.
So when you get to that space you take a pause and then you start wondering what matters to me,
What matters to me.
In fact it's really useful right now to just do a little list.
What matters to me most is and write down five things,
Not ten,
Not twenty,
Five things.
You can get it to three or four that's even better.
What matters to you,
What do you find meaningful,
What brings meaning to your life and then start to move more fully toward that while letting everything else go.
I know that life is complicated,
We we get in relationships and then maybe you know what matters to us changes but we're still in this relationship that says you know maybe thing A matters whereas now that we move along in our life what matters to us is thing B or maybe we have you know jobs where we maybe even got pretty good at our job and then we realize we don't doesn't matter to us and then the thought of shifting or doing something different is pretty frightening.
All these ways of whatever we did in the past and here we are now a new person,
A new version of ourselves and we are still yet going to be going forward into a new being of ourselves again,
Yet again.
Pay attention to what matters now,
Pay attention to what brings meaning and what you find meaningful.
Make that list of five things right now,
Spend a moment and then just move in that direction.
