The butterfly.
Your spiritual animal guide.
So welcome.
I'm glad you're here.
And taking a moment for yourself.
Find a comfortable seat and take a gentle breath.
Let's step together into a world of one of nature's most beautiful symbols there is.
The butterfly.
There's something that happens inside most of us when we see a butterfly.
We slow down,
We watch,
And something in us recognizes it.
It's a quiet whisper from the natural world that says pay attention.
And maybe that's why you are here today.
The butterfly may have found its way to you.
Or perhaps you set out to find it and draw it by mysterious presence.
With this sense of attention and connection,
Let's explore together what this extraordinary creature is here to teach us.
And how its wisdom might touch our own journey.
So what does the butterfly mean as a spiritual animal?
The butterfly symbolizes transformation.
A profound,
Complete change.
The kind that turns you inside out and sends you into the world anew.
What is important to understand.
The butterfly doesn't just symbolize the beauty of the result,
It embodies it.
It honors every stage of the journey.
The caterpillar must eat,
Grow and build resources.
The cerellus is where everything familiar dissolves in darkness.
And then the breathtaking emerge.
If the butterfly has come to you as a spirit animal,
It may call you to embrace transformation as you know it.
And that means slow growth,
Patience,
Waiting,
And gentle unfolding.
Like tulips,
Rising after winter.
And it might invite you to trust the process,
Even if it feels unfamiliar,
Uncomfortable.
Or,
As they say at home,
It may remind you that joy and lightness are not a luxury.
They are part of who you are.
The butterfly carries another message beyond transformation.
Move through life with grace and playfulness.
Have you noticed how a butterfly moves?
It doesn't travel straight,
It dances,
It dips,
It spirals,
It never rushes.
Butterfly spirit animals ask you like Can you trust the winding path?
Can you open your wings without knowing exactly where you are going?
So that brings me by how the butterfly can support you So if you are in a season of change as many of us are.
The butterfly spirit animal is a powerful guide to invite.
Call on the butterfly when you fear who you are becoming.
When you stand into that in-between space,
No longer who you were,
Not yet who you will be.
The butterfly understands.
It's been there.
It knows what it means to dissolve into the unknown and trust the process.
You can call on it when you are too hard on yourself.
The butterfly does not judge the caterpillar for not being too slow or not able to fly.
It does not look back on the chrysalis with shame.
Every stage was necessary,
Sacred,
And perfect in its own way.
Your past self,
Your tender self,
Your struggling self,
All of that made you possible.
And the butterfly sees all of that.
You can call on it to reconnect with joy.
Sometimes life feels heavy.
You know,
Like a gray sky has settled in.
But Dutterfly reminds us.
Find the flowers,
Even on a rainy day.
Drink from there.
Let their true colors show.
You are not only here to endure,
You are here to bring beauty into the world in your own way.
And perhaps,
Most beautifully,
Call on the butterfly when you worry that the transformation means losing yourself.
A butterfly has a secret.
And we'll shortly get into that.
It carries more of its former self than you might imagine.
Before that,
Let's have a little journey into folklore.
Across cultures and centuries,
The butterfly has been held sacred,
Close to the soul itself.
In ancient Greek,
The word for butterfly was Psyche.
It's the same word as the word soul.
Arthur Stoll gave the butterfly that name.
The goddess Psyche,
Whose myth tells of a mortal woman enduring great trials for love,
Is always shown with a butterfly wing.
The Greek word for chrysalis,
The pupil stage,
Was nekdolen.
It means the shell of the dead.
And even the language recognized it in transformation.
Something must first seem to pass before it can rise.
Among Native American traditions,
The Toonoohoodong peoples of American Southwest had a beautiful practice.
They believed the butterfly would carry your wishes and prayers to the Great Spirit.
You would gently catch a butterfly without harming it.
Whisper your deepest wish to it,
And then release it into the sky.
By releasing it,
Your prayer would be carried upward to the Creator.
And in Irish folklore,
The white butterfly was believed to carry the souls of the dead.
It was so sacred that it was considered deeply unlucky to harm one.
The butterfly was seen as a messenger between this world and the next.
It moves through the veil as easily as it moves between flowers.
Around the world,
The butterfly has always symbolized the soul's journey.
In Japan,
Butterflies guide souls to the afterlife.
In Mexico,
The monarch butterflies arrive at sacred site and are seen as souls of ancestors returning.
This small winged creature is a sign of age.
Con-tu-ity.
Of something in us.
That does not perish.
So let's have a look at the two unique and extraordinary things about Butterfly.
As I say every time,
This astonishes me.
So the first is scientific and the second borders on miraculous,
I think.
So the first.
Inside,
The chrysalis.
The caterpillar does not simply change.
It dissolves.
So sealed in the chrysalis,
Enzyme dissolves the caterpillar's body into a sour soup.
Almost everything is undone.
Yet that soup clusters off all the cells called imaginacal disc guide.
It's to grow again.
And they waited inside the caterpillar all along.
So now this new body is built.
Wings,
Eyes,
Antenna,
Legs.
And a new creature rises from the old.
This shows a deep spiritual invitation.
Dismantling isn't tragedy.
Dissolving is the door.
Falling apart may let the universe build something extraordinary from what is within you.
Building on this sense of profound change,
The second astonishing truth is more subtle.
The butterfly remembers,
So researchers at Georgetown University trained caterpillars to avoid ascent.
And after the metamorphosis,
The butterflies still avoided.
Neutral memory endurance.
Let that land,
Just for a second.
So a body can completely be remained.
And still carry the wisdom of everything it lived through before.
You will not lose your wisdom in transformation.
Hard-earned understanding,
Compassion and love survives.
And this,
The butterfly tells us,
Is you are reborn.
So not starting over,
But becoming more yourself each time.
So,
If the butterfly has found you today,
Hear this gentle message.
You are in the midst of something important.
Maybe you're the caterpillar,
Gathering strength.
Maybe you're in the chrysalis,
In the darkness.
Or maybe you're at the edge of emerging,
Wings still damp.
Wherever you are,
You are exactly where you need to be.
Trust the process.
Trust what you carry.
Trust your inner seeds.
Imaginal disc waiting for the right moment to unfold.
The butterfly doesn't ask the caterpillar to rush.
It doesn't apologize for the chrysalis.
It simply opens its wings when it's time.
And their advances.
So may you find that timing,
May you find that lightness,
And may you always remember your soul,
Like the butterflies,
Knows the way.
