Natural White Noise (Heavy Rainfall & Winds)
by Ryan Garner
I often record rainfall extremely close, so I wanted to approach it from a different angle this time. The weather outside was ferocious as there was a storm sweeping past the house. I placed my recording equipment next to the window and experimented with the angle and positioning. I wanted to capture a more experimental rain recording. In the end, I heard the rain sweeping by the house with raging winds that generated a "White Noise" sort of effect. I never thought a storm that seemed so wild could almost sound calming. On listening back, I found it almost reminiscent of waves sweeping on an open beach. This is just how I perceive it. However, I'd imagine it could be beneficial for focus / study and even sleep if used as a tool to drown out external noises. Whatever you take away from it, I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed capturing it for you.
