Welcome to Yoga Nidra for nervous system recovery.
I'm so glad that you're here.
Take a moment to settle into a position where your body feels completely supported.
Whether you're laying on your back.
Resting on your side or seated comfortably.
Allow yourself to find a position that requires very little effort.
You have nowhere to be for the next little while.
Nothing to solve.
Nothing to accomplish.
Only being present in this moment.
When you feel ready,
Gently close your eyes,
Take a slow,
Comfortable breath in through your nose,
And exhale softly through your mouth.
Again,
Breathing in.
And breathing out.
Allow your breathing to settle into its own natural rhythm.
There is nothing to change.
Simply notice.
Thanks for watching!
Feel the support beneath you,
Noticing the places where your body meets the surface below your heels.
Your legs,
Your hips.
You're back.
Your shoulders,
The back of your head.
Allow yourself to receive that support.
You do not have to hold yourself up.
For these next few moments,
You are completely supported.
During yoga nidra,
You may find yourself resting somewhere between waking and sleeping.
There is no right or wrong way to experience this practice.
If your thoughts begin to wander,
Gently return to the sound of my voice.
Allow awareness to remain soft and effortless.
Now bring to mind your intention for this practice.
In Yoga Nidra,
This is known as your sankalpa.
A simple heartfelt intention that gently settles into the deepest layers of awareness.
Simply repeat to yourself,
My body remembers how to return to balance.
Again,
My body remembers how to return to balance.
Allow these words to settle without needing to make them happen.
Simply plant the seed.
As we begin the rotation of awareness,
Allow yourself to notice each part of the body as it is named.
There is nothing to move,
Shift or wiggle.
Simply invite in awareness.
Bring your awareness to the right hand.
Right thumb.
Second finger.
Third finger.
Fourth finger.
Little finger.
Palm of the hand.
Back of the hand,
Wrist,
Forearm.
Elbow.
Upper arm.
Shoulder,
Right side of the chest.
Right waist,
Hip,
5.
.
.
Knee.
Lower leg.
Right ankle,
Heel.
Sole of the foot,
Top of the foot.
Right big toe,
Second toe,
Third toe,
Fourth toe,
Little toe.
Bring the awareness to the left side,
Left hand,
Thumb,
Second finger,
Third finger,
Fourth finger,
Little finger,
Palm.
Back of the hand,
Wrist,
Forearm.
Elbow,
Upper arm,
Shoulder,
Left side of the chest,
Waist,
Bye.
Left knee.
Lower leg.
Ankle.
Soul of the Foot.
Top of the foot.
Big toe.
Second toe.
Third toe.
Fourth toe.
Little toe.
Become aware of the back body,
Both heels,
Calves.
Backs of the knees.
Hamstrings.
Hips,
Lower back.
Middle back.
Upper back.
Shoulder blades.
Back of the neck.
Back of the head.
Now the front body.
Top of the head.
Forehead.
Eyebrows.
Space between the eyebrows.
Eyes.
Cheeks.
Nose.
Lips,
Jaw,
Throat.
Chest.
Heart,
Upper abdomen.
Navel Lower abdomen.
Pelvis.
Feel the whole body together.
One complete body.
Resting.
Breathing.
Support it.
Your entire awareness rests.
On your whole,
Complete body.
Bring your awareness to your natural breath.
Without changing it,
Simply notice its rhythm.
The gentle rise.
The gentle fall.
Each inhale arriving.
Each exhale releasing.
You Perhaps you begin to notice that the exhale naturally invites a little more softness.
Nothing force.
Only allowed.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Now imagine breathing into every part of your body.
With each inhale,
Awareness expands gently through you.
With each exhale,
Your body softens a little more deeply into support.
As you inhale,
Feel the body gently expand.
As you exhale,
Feel the body soften.
Inhale,
Awareness expands.
Exhale,
The body softens.
Now become aware of the sensation of activation.
Without recalling a specific memory,
Simply notice the feeling of alertness within the body.
Perhaps the breath feels a little bit quicker.
The muscles slightly awake.
Simply observe.
Remind yourself you are safe here.
Now allow that feeling to dissolve.
Experience ease.
Feel the shoulders soften.
The jaw releases.
The belly relaxes.
The breath becomes spacious.
The heart beats steadily.
Notice the difference.
Activation.
And ease.
Alertness.
Allow your awareness to move gently between these sensations.
Activation,
Years.
Alertness,
Calm.
Recognizing that your body already knows both.
And your body knows how to return.
Your body knows.
To release activation and find ease.
To be aware of alertness.
To invite in calm.
Now imagine yourself walking slowly through a quiet forest.
Tall trees surround you.
Their branches sway gently in the breeze.
Sunlight filters softly through the leaves.
The air is cool and fresh.
With every step,
The sounds become quieter.
The song of the birds.
Leaves moving overhead.
The distant sound of flowing water.
The forest asks nothing of you.
You do not need to perform.
You do not need to solve.
You do not need to become.
You belong here exactly as you are.
Ahead you notice a wide clearing bathed in soft light.
And in the center rests a smooth stone warmed by the sun.
You sit upon it,
Feeling completely supported by the earth beneath you.
As you rest,
Imagine roots extending gently from your body into the earth below.
Not pulling you downward,
Simply connecting you.
Study.
Grounded.
Supported.
With every exhale,
The earth receives anything your body no longer needs to carry.
Effort.
Tension.
Vigilance.
With every inhale,
The earth offers a quiet steadiness.
Safety.
Is.
Balance.
Spend a few moments resting here.
Notice how your body feels now.
Perhaps nothing has changed.
Perhaps everything has softened.
Whatever you notice is welcome.
Your nervous system does not need perfection.
It responds to moments like these.
Moments of Safety.
Moments of stillness.
Moments of rest.
Return now to your sankalpa.
Silently repeat.
My body remembers how to return to balance.
Again,
My body remembers how to return to balance.
Allow these words to settle deeply into every part of your being.
Begin to notice the natural rhythm of your breath.
Feel the support beneath your body once again.
Notice the sounds in the room around you.
Become aware of your fingers.
Your toes.
Perhaps gently moving them.
Maybe a gentle stretch if that feels okay.
Take your time.
There is no rush.
As you continue with your day or settle in for sleep.
Remember that your nervous system is always listening.
Every slow breath.
Every moment of stillness.
Every act of kindness towards yourself becomes an invitation to return to balance.
Carry that knowing with you.
And when you feel ready.
Gently open your eyes.
The practice of Yoga Nidra is now complete.
