This is a 'progressive muscle relaxation technique (a.k.a. PMR). PMR has been scientifically researched to be an extremely effective technique in the management of anxiety, stress, tension and insomnia. It involves tensing and relaxing all the muscles of the body progressively from head to toe to help induce a deep state of relaxation. It works on the premise that when you experience deep 'physical' relaxation, your mind automatically calms down and you feel more relaxed.
