I welcome you to tonight's guided sleep meditation designed to help release tension,

Quiet the mind and let go of stress from the day so you can more easily drift off to sleep.

Often when we lay our head on our pillow at night,

The thoughts we push away during the day all of a sudden bubble up out of nowhere and without the distractions we normally have during the day,

It can be really challenging to quiet the mind,

Making it difficult to fall asleep.

And so my friend,

I would love to help you unwind and settle in tonight to help still your mind by shifting your focus to the relaxation of your body,

To the calming sounds and the peaceful images that I will be guiding for you.

It truly is an honor to be able to guide you tonight.

Allow my voice and my words to calm you and to help put you at ease.

So go ahead and ease into your sleep space.

Stretch out into your most favorite sleep position.

Take a deep breath in and as you exhale,

Close your eyes and begin to relax.

As your day now comes to a close,

Your comfy bed invites you to lie back and relax,

Gently supporting your body.

Enjoy the softness of your sheets and pillows and bed covers.

Welcome the comfort and protection that they offer you.

This is your sleep sanctuary and you are safe here.

As you begin to release the heaviness from the day,

You let go and soften into your bed,

Letting go gently,

Allowing the soft surface below to support you.

This is the wonderful time of the day where you can finally let go,

To be yourself,

Free of any roles and responsibilities,

Free to let it all go now.

Take a slow,

Deep breath in and now sigh it out through your mouth.

That's it.

Release the heaviness and tension from the day.

Release it all with the exhale.

And now take a moment to offer gratitude for your soft pillow that cradles your head,

For your bed and the support it offers your tired body,

For your sleep blankets protecting you from the outside world.

Now allow the healing energy of gratitude to pour into you from the top of your head all the way down to the tips of your toes,

Filling you with gratitude for this body.

For this breath.

For this quiet moment.

And for the precious gift of restful sleep.

Each breath you take,

My friend,

Send it now to any part of your body that is holding tension.

With each breath,

Peace trickles into that space like raindrops.

And each breath out rinses away tension and stress.

Each part of your body slowly begins to surrender and let go.

Mentally scan your body now from head to toe.

Scanning for any areas of tension,

Stiffness,

Discomfort.

And then breathing in,

Allowing peace to flow into that space.

And then breathing out,

Soften and release.

Take a few moments now to practice this on your own for a few moments while I remain quiet.

As night closes in,

Your body naturally wants to relax and soften.

And as I name each part of your body,

You can help it by sending comfort and relaxation into that space.

Offering your body your loving attention right now.

Giving it full permission to release.

The let go of the tension that it has been holding onto as a way of protecting you.

And so mentally scanning from your feet all the way to the top of your head.

Just as though you were taking the time to say good night to each part.

Letting your body know that it's safe to relax.

That it's safe to let go.

Beginning now by bringing your awareness to the right foot.

Left foot.

Right leg.

Left leg.

Right hip.

Left hip.

Your feet,

Legs and hips sinking down into the bed.

Heavy,

Warm and relaxed.

Letting go.

Feeling peaceful and relaxed.

Bring that feeling of warmth and relaxation to your belly.

Chest.

Your lower,

Middle and upper back.

Your chest,

Belly and back softening and letting go.

A pleasant feeling of comfort and relaxation fills your chest,

Belly and back.

Now bring this feeling of comfort and relaxation to the right hand.

Left hand.

Right arm.

Left arm.

Feel your hands and arms sinking down.

Feel very heavy now.

Feel and calm.

Bring this feeling of softening and relaxation to the right shoulder.

Left shoulder.

Neck.

Jaw.

Right eye.

Left eye.

The space between the eyebrows.

Forehead.

The top of your head.

And the back of your head.

Your head,

Neck and shoulders feel completely at ease.

Your face serene and smooth and you feel very peaceful and relaxed.

Feel the weight of your body held and supported by your bed.

Your whole body gives way to this wonderful feeling of comfort.

Getting heavier and heavier and heavier.

Sinking deeper down into the bed.

And your body and mind feel calm,

Relaxed and at ease.

Invite this feeling of comfort and ease with you now as you imagine relaxing by a beautiful lakeside campfire.

It's a perfect summer evening.

The sun is beginning to set and this quiet place in nature that surrounds you helps deepen this feeling of peace and tranquility.

Look out over the water.

Feel the gentle warm breeze and how it causes tiny ripples across the surface of the lake.

The crackling fire and gentle water sounds from the lake soothe and calm your nervous system,

Bringing back harmony and balance to your body and mind.

Lush grass,

Pretty flowers and tall trees frame the lake.

Hear the birds singing in the trees,

Softly chirping little songs of happiness.

And as you look out over the water at the beautiful sunset,

A calm feeling settles within you.

This breathtaking sunset reminds you that at the end of one journey is the beginning of another and no matter what has happened today,

Your day can still end beautifully.

The surface of the lake reflects the tall trees and all the colors of the sky.

You can see pink clouds reflecting on the water as they sail across the rippling surface.

Take a slow,

Deep breath in and as you breathe out,

Release your fears and worries.

Set them free with the breeze so they can float away with the ripples across the surface of the water.

The soothing warmth from the fire bring you comfort,

Lulling you deeper and deeper into a state of blissful peace.

You feel very calm,

Content and relaxed.

Rest your body now on the soft blanket that is spread out on the lush grass behind you.

As you lie back,

Feel the cushioning of the grass around the edges of your body.

The softness of the blanket beneath you.

Notice how the edges of your body are beginning to soften from the warmth that radiates from the fire,

Melting away the tension,

Softening into the ground,

Held and supported by the earth.

The tall trees framing the lake help create a feeling of security,

A safe haven where you can be yourself,

Free of responsibilities.

You feel completely at ease here.

You are safe here.

Even though this peaceful lake is in your mind,

The feelings of safety and comfort that it creates are very real.

And these feelings allow you to let go and relax as you continue to prepare your body and mind for a deep,

Restful,

Peaceful sleep.

This experience has left you feeling grounded.

You feel a connection with all that is around you.

You feel a part of something bigger.

You are filled with a deep sense of belonging.

You are part of the sky.

You are part of the earth.

The trees.

The lake.

The fire.

And you know that you are part of the entire universe.

As the sun begins to make its final descent beyond the horizon,

Twinkling stars begin to peek through the twilight sky like sparkling diamonds,

Becoming brighter and brighter as the sky becomes darker and darker.

Your shimmering radiance reminds you that even in darkness,

There is light.

Your body and mind in perfect harmony.

No more tension.

No more worries.

And with the day completely behind you,

You are now ready for sleep.

So allow the image of this peaceful lake to slowly fade away.

And you are now back in your bed.

Back in the comfort of your sleep space.

Safe and secure.

Ready to receive the peaceful sleep that you deserve.

You are safe in your sleep space.

Protected from the outside world.

Held and supported.

Peaceful.

And secure.
