This meditation has been designed as the ideal way to factor in some connection to your day.
You can use it as a tool at lunchtime to support you in resetting,
Or even after work to support you in transitioning from one space to the next.
This meditation is designed as a moving meditation and is best enjoyed with headphones on a walk.
The walk can be anywhere and at any pace.
There may be pockets of silence for you to be with and walk with as you travel.
Through this walking meditation,
We will connect consciously and unconsciously to our breath,
This magical yet invisible source of health,
Building our health mentally,
Emotionally,
And spiritually.
In the words of Eckhart Tolle,
Being aware of your breath forces you into the present moment,
The key to all inner transformation.
When you are conscious of the breath,
You are absolutely present.
You may also notice that you cannot think and be aware of your breathing.
Conscious breathing stops your mind.
Commence your walk starting with a nice deep inhale and sighing out your exhale.
Release the day,
Dropping into a beautiful space for you.
A space where you can get back to you.
Firstly,
Walk and acknowledge how you are feeling.
Connecting with thought and checking in.
Allow all the thoughts and feelings to come to the surface to be processed.
Have that conversation in your mind as you walk.
Be your own best listener.
It may be the first initial chatter of fighting the urge to walk.
I shouldn't really be doing this.
I can't be bothered.
I'm too tired.
Allow it all to come.
Then take a deep breath in again and sigh it out.
Releasing the shoulds or the thoughts Again,
Breathing deeply,
Sighing it out.
And start to land here in this moment.
Where are you walking?
Take a look around.
What do you see?
Notice how when you were stuck in the thinking,
You missed the being.
Have you walked a little on autopilot so far?
That's okay,
It's all awareness.
Repeating to yourself as you walk,
All I have is here and now.
All I have is here and now.
All I have is here and now.
Allow each word to land with each step.
All I have is here and now.
Use the repetition of the words to silence the thinking,
The thoughts.
Slowly build towards being comfortable with only your breath.
We can guide the brain and train it just like any other muscle,
Building repetition and strength positively.
Were you aware of your breath as you repeated the words?
Probably not.
There are so many actions we do unconsciously and breathing is just one of the many incredible things your body does.
Connect back with some long,
Deep breaths in through the nose,
Out through the nose.
In through the nose.
Out through the nose.
Repeating to yourself,
My past does not define my future.
I can choose a different route or path at any time.
My past does not define my future.
I can choose a different route or path at any time.
My past does not define my future.
I can choose a different route or path at any time.
Use your walk as an analogy for life.
Are you truly present or walking on autopilot?
As you walk,
Notice your breath.
Has it sped up or slowed down?
Take a moment to check in.
As you breathe,
Notice the temperature of your breath.
Feel your breath travel within your body.
As you walk and breathe.
Consider the season that you're in.
What signs can you see reflected around you this season?
And gently smile to yourself as you breathe and connect with the world around you.
Recognize that the whole world,
Yourself included,
Is a living,
Breathing,
Ever-changing environment.
Enjoy this reflection engaging with the seasonality.
Begin to bring balance to mind and body.
Breathe in for four.
And out for 4.
Balancing the inhale and exhale.
Trying to breathe through your nose wherever possible.
As you breathe and walk,
Count the many other magnificent changes that are taking place within you.
Your immune system is building.
Your focus and clarity are improving.
Stress and anxiety are being released.
You're allowing stress hormones to be released and building a better relationship with you.
Continue walking and counting.
In for four.
Out for 4.
Breathing in for four.
Breathing out for four.
Releasing the counting.
Become aware of the movement of your body.
Notice your feet stepping.
Arms gently swinging hips moving.
Notice how this unconscious act changes as you do it mindfully.
And give gratitude for the opportunity to connect with your body in this way.
As you wrap up your walk,
Taking a big,
Deep inhale through the nose.
And exhale through the mouth.
Really smiling.
Relax your jaw.
Breathing deeply.
You may choose to stop here or continue your journey.
Feel calmer,
More connected and present.
Just the breath of fresh air you needed.
