Tello.
And a warm welcome to Inside Timer.
I'm Rahul Singh.
Perhaps the night has not even begun and already you are worried about how it will go.
You notice the time.
You remember last night.
Maybe the night before that.
And somewhere inside,
You begin preparing for another difficult one.
Will I fall asleep?
Will I wake again?
How many hours will I get?
How will I manage tomorrow?
And suddenly,
Bedtime is no longer simply bedtime.
It has become something you are bracing yourself for.
After enough broken nights,
The body can begin to learn this pattern.
The darkness,
The clock.
Possibility of not sleeping.
And instead of letting go,
Some part of you begins watching.
Checking.
Waiting.
Monitoring.
Not because you are doing anything wrong.
The system is simply trying to protect you from another difficult night.
But sleep does not need protection.
It needs less interference.
So tonight,
We are not going to fight wakefulness and we are not going to chase sleep.
We are going to make the night less important.
Feel the bed beneath you.
Notice where your body is already being supported.
The shoulders,
The back.
The legs.
You do not need to hold yourself together here.
Let some of your weight go.
Take an easy breath in.
And let the exhale leave gently.
Again,
Without trying to calm yourself,
Without trying to make anything happen.
Just Breathing.
Now notice what the mind is most afraid of.
Perhaps it is not even this moment,
Perhaps it is tomorrow.
I will be exhausted.
I will not function properly.
I will struggle through the day.
I cannot afford another bad night.
This is often where the pressure begins.
Because now sleep feels necessary,
Urgent,
Something that must happen.
And the more necessary sleep feels,
The more closely the mind watches for it.
But tomorrow does not need to be solved from this bed.
Even if tonight is imperfect,
You do not have to live tomorrow right now.
You have moved through tired days before.
You have adapted.
You have slowed down when needed.
You have done what you could.
You do not need to guarantee tomorrow in order to rest tonight.
Now notice if there is any struggle with being awake.
May be a quiet resistance.
I should be asleep.
This cannot happen again.
I need this night to go well.
Sometimes the wakefulness is difficult enough.
What makes it heavier is the struggle against it.
So for this moment,
Allow yourself to be awake.
Not as a trick to make sleep come.
Not secretly waiting for acceptance to work.
Simply,
You are allowed to be awake right now.
Nothing has gone wrong because you are still conscious.
You are lying here.
You are breathing.
You are resting.
This moment does not need fixing.
And when the mind begins traveling through the entire night,
Come back.
Not 7 hours,
Not 4 hours,
Not tomorrow morning.
Only now.
Feel the bed.
Let one breath leave slowly and say inwardly,
I do not need to solve the whole night.
Only this moment.
If you wake later,
Perhaps at 2 or 3 and the mind immediately reaches for the clock,
Remember this.
Do not calculate.
Do not predict.
Feel the bed.
Exhale.
Return to now.
Again,
Do not calculate.
Do not predict.
Feel the bed.
Exhaled.
Return to now.
You do not need to decide what tomorrow will feel like.
You do not need to count what has been lost.
You do not need to know when sleep will return.
The night becomes much heavier when every waking moment is turned into evidence that something is wrong.
But an imperfect night is not an emergency.
A difficult night is uncomfortable.
It may leave you tired.
It may not be what you wanted.
But it does not need to become a crisis in your mind.
And when the mind stops treating wakefulness as an emergency,
The body no longer has quite so much to defend against.
Yesterday's broken night is a memory.
Tomorrow's difficult day is a prediction.
Neither one is happening here.
Here,
There is only this bed.
This spread.
This moment.
Let the jaw loosen.
Let the tongue rest.
Let the shoulders become heavy.
Let the hands soften.
No checking whether sleep is close.
No measuring how relaxed you are.
No asking is it working yet.
Sleep does not need to be supervised.
Let the night unfold without you managing it.
If sleep comes,
Let it come.
If wakefulness stays a little longer.
.
.
Let that be here too.
You do not need certainty.
You do not need a perfect night.
You do not need a guarantee about tomorrow.
You only need to stop turning this moment into a battle.
The body knows how to move towards sleep.
You do not have to command it.
You do not have to force it.
You do not have to keep checking whether it remembers.
For now.
Let yourself be carried by the bed.
Let the breath move on its own.
Let tomorrow remain where it belongs.
And remember.
You do not have to trust that tonight will be perfect.
You only have to stop fighting the night.
For this moment.
That is enough.
