Take a moment to settle into a comfortable position.
Allow your body to be supported by whatever is beneath you.
And when you're ready,
Gently close your eyes.
Take a slow,
Deep breath in through your nose.
And slowly release it.
Again,
Breathe in.
And exhale.
One more time,
Deep breath in.
And let it go.
For the next few moments,
You are simply allowing yourself to be present.
To listen,
To feel,
And to release.
Bring your attention to your body.
Notice the weight of your body against the surface beneath you.
Notice your shoulders.
And if they're holding tension,
Allow them to soften.
Relax your jaw.
Relax the muscles around your eyes.
Let your hands become heavy.
Let your belly soften.
And imagine that with every breath,
You are becoming a little more grounded.
A little more present.
A little more connected to yourself.
Now imagine roots extending from the soles of your feet.
Deep into the earth beneath you.
Strong Roots.
Reaching downward through the ground.
Past the surface,
Deeper and deeper until you feel yourself becoming anchored.
You are here.
You are safe in this moment.
You are the living point where everything that came before you meets everything that will come after you.
Now imagine that you are standing in a beautiful,
Quiet place.
In front of you is an enormous tree.
Its trunk is wide and strong.
Branches stretch far above you.
And beneath the earth,
You can sense an enormous network of roots.
And as you look at this tree,
You realize something.
This tree represents your lineage.
The roots represent those who came before you.
Trunk represents you.
And the branches represent everything that can continue beyond you.
You walk slowly toward the tree.
And place your hands against its trunk.
Feel its strength.
And as you do,
You recognize the truth that you did not begin with yourself.
There were lives before yours.
People who experienced love,
Loss,
Fear.
Joy,
Survival.
Struggle.
And dreams.
Some of them made choices that changed the lives of those who came after them.
Some carried pain they never had the opportunity to heal.
Some of them pass down wisdom.
Some of them passed down fear.
Some of them passed down beliefs.
Some of them passed down silence.
And some simply did the best they could with what they knew.
Take a slow,
Deep breath in.
And exhale.
And allow yourself to acknowledge the complexity of your lineage.
You don't have to romanticize it.
You don't have to condemn it.
You don't have to understand every story.
You are simply recognizing that you are part of a much larger human story.
Now in your imagination,
Allow the roots of this tree to become visible.
See them extending deep into the earth.
And imagine seven generations of your lineage appearing before you.
You may see people clearly.
Or only vague shapes.
You may recognize some of the faces.
Or you may see colors.
Lights,
Silhouettes.
Or simply sense their presence.
There's no right way to experience this.
Let whatever comes,
Come to you.
And if nothing comes at all,
That's perfectly fine,
Because you are working symbolically.
You are giving your mind,
Your heart,
And your body permission to acknowledge what has been carried through generations.
Now imagine the first generation behind you.
Your parents.
See them standing somewhere within the roots.
And silently say.
I acknowledge you.
I acknowledge that you had your own stories.
I acknowledge that you carried your own experiences.
I honor what was life-giving.
And I release what was harmful.
Take a deep breath in.
And exhale.
Now allow yourself to see the second generation.
Your grandparents.
And say,
I acknowledge you.
I recognize that you lived a life I may never fully understand.
I honor what brought strength into my lineage.
And I release what does not need to continue through me.
Now the third generation,
Your great-grandparents.
Perhaps you know their names.
Perhaps you don't.
It doesn't matter.
Simply acknowledge them.
I see you.
I honor your humanity.
I release what belongs to your story.
And I choose what belongs in mine.
Now the fourth generation.
And the fifth.
And the sixth.
And finally the seventh generation.
Seven generations behind you.
People whose lives may have been completely different from yours,
Different worlds,
Different circumstances.
Different fears.
And somehow,
Through an extraordinary chain of human lives,
You are here.
Go ahead and breathe that in.
You are here.
Now imagine that within the roots of this tree are different things that have traveled through your lineage.
Some of these things may appear as stones.
Or heavy objects.
Some may appear as dark clouds.
Some may appear as tangled threads.
And some may appear as words,
Such as fear,
Scarcity.
Shame.
Anger.
Silence.
Abandonment.
Grief.
Control.
Self-sacrifice.
And worthiness.
The belief that love must be earned.
The belief that survival requires suffering.
The belief that you must put everyone else first.
The belief that you cannot be yourself.
The belief that you must stay small to remain safe.
Whatever appears,
Don't judge it.
Simply observe.
And now notice something important.
You can acknowledge what was carried without agreeing to carry it any further.
Place your hand over your heart.
And say to yourself,
I honor what my ancestors survived.
But I do not have to repeat their suffering in order to honor them.
Again.
I honor what they survived.
And I choose healing.
Take a slow,
Deep breath in.
And exhale.
Now imagine that the roots of the tree begin releasing everything that no longer needs to travel forward.
See those old patterns beginning to loosen.
Fear that has been carried for generations.
They begin to dissolve.
Old beliefs begin to loosen.
Inherited shame begins to fall away.
Old survival patterns begin to release.
You don't have to know exactly where they came from.
You don't have to identify who caused them.
You don't have to solve your family's history.
You are simply making a powerful internal decision.
This stops with me.
Take a deep breath in.
And say to yourself,
What belongs to the past can remain in the past.
What was never mine to carry,
I release.
What I have carried unconsciously.
I now release consciously.
I release fear.
I release shame.
I release scarcity.
I release silence.
I release the belief that suffering is the price of love.
And finally,
I release the responsibility to repeat what hurt those who came before me.
Take a long,
Slow breath in.
And exhale.
Now imagine that each generation is standing peacefully within the roots.
And imagine yourself holding a bundle in your hands.
This bundle contains everything you have carried that was never truly yours.
Expectations.
And spoken rules.
Old family roles.
Other people's pain.
Other people's fear.
Other people's unfinished stories.
You don't need to identify every piece of the bundle.
You simply know.
I don't need to carry this anymore.
So you walk toward the roots.
And gently place the bundle into the earth.
Watch as the Earth receives it.
Not with punishment,
Not with judgment,
But with transformation.
The earth knows how to transform what is finished.
And as you release this burden,
Your body becomes lighter.
Your shoulders relax.
Your mind becomes quiet.
Take a slow,
Deep breath in.
And exhale.
Now turn your attention back toward the tree.
And look at the trunk.
This is you.
And notice that the trunk is strong.
Because you are not only the product of what happened before you,
You are also the person who gets to decide what happens next.
So now ask yourself.
What do I want to carry forward?
Perhaps courage.
Perhaps resilience.
Perhaps creativity.
Compassion.
Wisdom.
Determination.
Perhaps the capacity to love.
Perhaps simply the strength that allowed your ancestors to keep going until life eventually reached you.
Whatever comes to you,
Receive it.
And imagine those qualities moving upward through the roots.
Into the trunk.
And into your heart.
You are not rejecting your lineage,
You are discerning it.
You're saying,
I will carry the wisdom.
I will leave the wounds.
I will carry the love.
And will leave the fear.
I will carry the strength.
I will leave the patterns that create suffering.
I will carry forward what helps life grow.
Now imagine beautiful light beginning at the base of the tree.
It may be white.
Or gold,
Or silver.
Or whatever color feels right to you.
The light moves through the roots.
And as it moves,
Imagine it touching every generation.
Not changing their history.
And not erasing what happened.
But bringing the compassion to places that were never given enough compassion.
Let the light move through the seventh generation.
Through the 6th.
Through the fifth,
The fourth.
The third.
The second.
And the first.
And then allow that light to move toward you.
Into your feet.
Up your legs.
Your pelvis,
Your abdomen.
Your heart.
Your throat.
Your mind.
Your entire body.
You are the place where the lineage changes direction.
And perhaps this is one of the most powerful things you can give to those who came before you.
Not your suffering,
But your healing.
Not your repetition,
But your awareness.
Not your silence,
But your willingness to live differently.
Now look upward.
See the branches of the tree stretching toward the sky.
And imagine that beyond you are lives that don't exist yet.
Future generations.
People who may one day exist because you were here.
And silently tell them.
You do not have to carry what I carried.
I am doing my best to heal what I can.
I am making different choices.
You are allowed to live with greater freedom.
And then imagine the healing light moving through from your heart up through your body.
Into the branches.
And outward.
Toward those future lives.
You don't have to create a perfect lineage.
And you don't have to heal everything.
You simply have to become conscious of what you choose to continue.
One choice.
One pattern.
One belief.
One act of self-love at a time.
Place both hands over your heart.
Take a slow,
Deep breath in.
And say,
To those who came before me.
I honor your lives.
I honor your struggles.
I honor the strength that brought life forward.
I release what no longer belongs in my life.
I released the burdens I was never meant to carry.
I choose to end patterns that create suffering.
I choose healing.
I choose freedom.
I choose love.
And finally,
What was carried through generations may end with me.
Take a deep breath in.
And let it go.
Allow the image of the tree to slowly fade.
The rules remain beneath you.
But you are no longer carrying their weight.
You are standing in your own life.
Your own body,
Your own choices,
Your own future.
Take one more deep breath in.
And slowly exhale.
And when you're ready,
Gently move your fingers,
Your toes.
Stretch a little bit if you need to.
And slowly open your eyes.
Take a moment before moving because something has shifted.
Maybe you feel lighter.
Maybe emotional.
May be peaceful.
Maybe nothing obvious at all.
There is no particular feeling you need to have.
Healing doesn't always announce itself.
Sometimes it begins with a decision.
A quiet decision that says,
I will not carry this any further.
And perhaps even more importantly,
I will decide what I do carry forward.
You are not responsible for rewriting the past,
But you can become the person who changes what happens next.
And that is powerful.
You are the living bridge between everything that came before.
And everything that comes after.
And you get to choose.
What crosses that bridge.
