Cabin in the woods,
Lubeck,
Maine.
Closing your eyes gently and coming to a comfortable position,
Either seated or lying down.
Take in a slow,
Deep breath.
Release slowly,
Allowing all the air to exit your lungs.
Taking in one more slow,
Deep breath and again,
Releasing slowly,
Allowing all the air in your lungs to exit completely.
Lubeck,
Maine is a small coastal town.
It's home to rocky coastal shores with rock cliffs rising 80 feet above the ocean.
For a couple of weeks each year,
Around the spring and fall equinoxes,
Lubeck,
Maine is home to the first sunrise in the United States.
Venturing inland,
Let's visit the cabin in the woods.
Taking a slow,
Deep breath,
In through the nose and out through the nose,
Imagine in your mind's eye driving from the rocky coastal shores to the woods of down east Maine.
You come to a parking area at the beginning of a trailhead.
You gather only the necessities,
Water and your car keys,
Placing them in a small backpack.
Locking your vehicle,
You are ready to set out on the journey to the cabin in the woods.
The trail is well marked and made of wood chips.
The cabin is roughly a mile into the woods off of the path.
It is the perfect day weather-wise,
Just the right temperature.
The sun is beaming down between the high trees above.
You're able to catch glimpses of the clear blue sky as you continue to walk further and further into the woods.
The path is windy as it begins to briefly follow a babbling brook.
The water is crystal clear as it makes its way over and around rocks of all different shapes and sizes.
The sound of the water is soothing and comforting.
Slowly,
The path leads you away from the brook into a more dense,
Forest-like area.
The smell of pine is exhilarating as you can't help but take in deep breaths,
Allowing the scent of pine,
Earth and fresh air to wash over you.
Continuing on the path,
You begin to see an opening in the forest trees.
You wonder to yourself how close you are to the cabin.
With each step,
The clearing is getting closer,
More open,
More vast.
You notice the shingles on the roof of the cabin first.
You're almost there.
A sense of peace,
Calm and serenity washes over you as the entire cabin is now within view.
A small log cabin with a slate blue shingled roof stands before you.
You gasp in wonder in beauty of this sacred little cabin in the woods.
It has a small front porch with a rocking chair to the left of the door.
You know you will be utilizing that once you settle in a bit and get comfortable.
To the right of the front door sits a pile of hardwood,
Neatly stacked,
Indicating a fireplace or wood stove inside the cabin.
You can't help but smile.
You walk up the three short steps to the front door,
Still looking around in awe and wonder.
Slowly opening the door,
You take in the contents of the cabin.
A small quaint kitchen,
A twin-sized bed in the corner,
A couch facing a wood-burning stove,
And a small bath opposite the kitchen.
You wonder what it must be like to live here.
Tucked away in the woods of Maine,
All alone.
You hear the birds chirping and singing all around,
The only noise you hear.
Peace and serenity are upon you.
Stillness and silence,
Except for the quiet sounds of nature.
Putting your backpack down,
Taking in some water,
You decide to go sit in that rocking chair on the front porch.
The sun peeks through the leaved branches of the trees,
Shining just enough light to warm your skin.
The rocking of the chair is soothing to your mind and body.
The deep,
Fresh scent of pine is relaxing and comforting.
You gently rest your head back in the chair,
Taking it all in.
Breathing slow and deep,
Allowing the peace you feel to wash over you,
Like a warm,
Calm waterfall.
You are so relaxed,
You end up closing your eyes and taking a little nap.
Upon waking,
You notice the sun lower in the sky.
The evening sun is beginning to set.
You slowly,
Reluctantly,
Rise from the rocking chair,
Knowing it's time to head back.
Going inside,
You gather your backpack,
Closing the door of the cabin behind you.
You offer your blessings and gratitude for the peace and safety the cabin afforded you,
Knowing anytime you need to rest and relax,
You now know where to go.
Walking down the steps of the porch,
Reaching the wood-chipped covered path,
You slowly turn around for one last glimpse of the cabin,
Taking it all in,
Knowing next time you will utilize the wood stove.
Your mind is quiet,
Your body is relaxed and well-rested.
You turn towards the path,
Making your way back to the trailhead.
May you be safe.
May you be happy.
May you be healthy.
May you live with ease.
Namaste.
