So what do colors say to you and your creative practice?

That's the question we are answering.

No,

As soon as I answer anything I want to re-answer it in a new way.

So I won't say we are answering it.

We are exploring it in these sessions of color theory.

We are up to yellow in this ROYGBIV.

Now as you know I'm concentrating these color theory Mondays on this spiritual and energetic resonance of colors rather than the scientific or intellectualizing aspect of them.

Although there's some of that mixed in because it plays of course,

It dances with the spiritual and energetic.

As artists we can completely concentrate on paints and canvas but to understand why brings the work to a whole new level.

Why this surface?

Why this brush?

Why this color?

Why this color right now?

It's always different.

Why am I performing this action,

This movement?

Why have I made this choice today?

When we can answer these kinds of questions,

Maybe not right in the moment but at some point have them rolling around in our brain and have the answers rise,

Then pure paint on canvas takes on an entirely new depth,

Meaning and integrity.

And that's the place I'm continuously trying to go with my own work and the work I put into the world via all of you and anywhere else I teach and share so that that resonance of all of our threads that we are weaving has deeper meaning and greater significance therein.

Now today is something a little different before we dig into yellow.

I want to take a trip with you so I'm going to ask you to close your eyes.

I'm not going to because I'm going to read but close your eyes.

It makes all the difference sometimes to close your eyes when you're visualizing.

I see pictures in my head with my eyes wide open but that's not always the case.

It's good to close your eyes and picture the stars.

Now of course the only way we see the stars is with that great canvas of blue blackness that they rest on.

That is the between the stars.

What is this space?

What is this vastness?

Thanks to exploration,

That human will to discover everything,

We now know that this vastness is not empty and that each planet,

Each star is a world of more space and more vastness.

Now still with your eyes closed,

Turn that gaze from that wide open universe to that of your insides.

Consider a cell,

One single cell and then the nucleus of that cell.

In relation to open space vastness,

This nucleus as you can stand at the center of a football field where the outer edges of this cell structure are not just the edges of the stadium or the parking lot but in the surround as well.

One cell is this grand.

What is in between all this tiny little center with this wide encasement?

Space the very same space that is in between all those stars.

What is this spaceness that is the sky and that is inside each and every cell?

Energy,

Vibration.

We know this now too.

As is without,

So it is within.

Each of our trillions of cells contains this immense space pulsing with energy and aliveness.

Space,

All of it is more vibrational energy than matter.

We each cell of us is more vibrational energy than matter.

Truly amazing.

What's color got to do with it?

Color is light bouncing off of energetic space and coming back to meet our eyes.

Color is merely one way we have come to classify energetic interaction.

A park bench attracts light.

Some rays of this light absorb some retract.

What refracts is what we see with our eyes.

Everything is energy vibrating to be seen.

I don't like the cliche of it but how's that for a quotable tweet?

We are all vibrating to be seen.

Now open your eyes if you haven't yet.

What is the first color you see?

Think about that for a moment.

This color as you know it is pure energy.

Truly amazing.

So today yellow,

Optimism,

Happiness,

Joy,

Enlightenment,

Knowledge,

New beginnings.

Associated with the more pleasant things in life.

Yellow kindles joy and happiness.

Yellow inspires positivity.

This color stimulates the left side of the brain which promotes logical thinking.

I so push against that it's funny but that's another story.

It encourages us to hone in and make informed decisions.

When we feel our grip on reality slipping the color yellow reminds us that our perceptions may be warped.

Yellow also peaks our curiosity and inspires us to pioneer novel ideas.

Moreover when we see the color yellow it prompts us to remain practical.

In essence it keeps us grounded.

Best of all the sunny tone bolsters self-assurance.

As an upbeat and cheerful hue yellow is inherently optimistic.

When self-doubt rears its ugly head the color yellow seeks to stop these senseless thoughts in their tracks.

How does yellow make you feel?

Do you associate yellow with certain qualities or situations?

Yellow's care excuse me colors can trigger.

PTSD if you will or the happiness factor.

The third color in the rainbow yellow corresponds to the third chakra.

The physical location of the chakra is the solar plexus.

Solar is an appropriate word don't you think since the greatest yellow energy we have is our very sun.

The biggest challenge with this solar plexus chakra is maintaining your yellow emotions.

Have you met people holding a grudge or they can't let go of any hurt after divorce or betrayal or job loss?

It's the phrase where anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.

These are all signs that yellow is needed yellow attention is needed in that circumstance or situation.

It is this place of our guts.

Let's remember we all want to well I'll speak for myself when I think of my gut I tend to go to that place that is the root chakra and that's truly not where it lies.

The gut is that solar plexus sort of area that is our stomach.

That is that processing unit quite literally in the digestive system that solar plexus area.

Yellow like I've said I'm thinking of the positive here is the daffodils is sunshine is honey.

Is ginger smacked kombucha?

Pulled that out as well on purpose.

Imbalanced yellow then is jaundice,

Sallowness,

Horrible words like pus and bile.

Our gut our gut is a source of this gut instinct this intuition this yellow.

The body is an amazing reflection of our choice and our health.

I believe it's always intended to be that positive glowing sunny energy.

It's never too late to change our mindset and thoughts and make those choices to surround ourselves with what that yellow energy means even if we don't appreciate the color to wear or put on our walls or bedeck our paintings.

We can still live in that yellow energy because as I started out with in our visualization it is all energy and vibration.

To do so surround yourself with the color even temporarily with the bouquet get outside and absorb the sun's rays and breathe the power like actually breathe the power of that sunshine.

It's in the very cells of the air from a more spiritual perspective yellow is connected with the sun and gold as I've said two symbols of wisdom.

There goes that connection to the left brain wise thinking intellectual machinations that beget wise results.

The transmutation of lead into gold is associated with the rebirth of the being.

This is rise from the dead.

In healing yellow has been used to promote clarity in one's thoughts.

It has been used as an aura color to signify intellectual development with spiritual ends.

Yellow is a great color to create enthusiasm for life and can awaken greater confidence and optimism.

My best example in my own work of the use of yellow was in my murmuration my murmur exhibit based on murmurations.

I don't have examples of that to share but what I am sharing is examples of an imaginative journey.

Imagine what any of these aside from the sunflower because that's the obvious yellow painting aside from the sunflower or the color wheel which isn't my work all the other paintings they have a whole lot of emphasis on black.

Okay there's white sure.

They have a lot of emphasis on dark shades and tones maybe not so much this one as these.

This exploration I've spoken to you about very briefly where you know I've never had such busy work such vibrant loud work before and I'm still working with these pieces.

I bring them to your attention because what would it be without that yellow?

All four of these what would they be without that yellow?

They would be dark a little morose.

Just that one pop of yellow in me brings about a calmness an openness a hopefulness which I believe is what it's all about.

Yellow helps with decision making as it relates to clarity of thoughts and ideas although it can often be impulsive.

Okay yeah there I can hold up my hand and go oh that's why I like yellow.

Oh that's all about me.

Yellow helps us focus study and recall information useful during exam times.

I wish I'd known that in college.

I've tested that theory out.

If you are going through a lot of change in your life you may find that you can't tolerate the color yellow very well.

It's interesting to examine.

It usually passes.

It just means that you're having trouble coping with the changes you're going through at the moment and yellow is vibrating too fast for you.

It is a color that vibrates very fast.

It makes you feel stressed out too much.

Those sunflowers you know stare at them too long and you could start getting enervated in a good way or in a bad way depending on your previous state of mind.

You can always introduce green or a soft orange into your life to balance this tonality and restore your energies to harmony.

So with those little tidbits of history and resonance and vibration around the color yellow let's take this information to the canvas.

I've set myself up.

I know where I'm going.

Intuition already spoke so if you don't have those elements in front of you follow along.

I'm going to turn my camera in a moment so you can watch my canvas.

But for just five minutes,

Turning on the timer,

For just five minutes let's see what comes from painting with yellow.

And I recognize that it's not going to be everybody's first choice and it might even be a really hard choice for you right now.

I'm not asking you to paint a masterpiece.

Just to explore how it feels and let that lesson that comes to you,

Even if it's no lesson,

Let it be okay.

Enjoy the exploration and I will wave off at the end with a couple comments about where we're going from here.

Phew,

Just in the nick of time.

I need to just let this drip now.

Love all the yellow.

Thanks for finding yellow hearts.

Nice work Grace Light and Laurel.

Yes.

Alright,

Remember no masterpieces.

Just experience,

Self-knowledge,

Self-development so that we are putting the best of our best into the world through our creative practice.

It's too important.

It's so important.

I'm very happy you all here.
