Loneliness is the signature disorder of our modern world. Its pain is as excruciating as any that comes from physical illness, and can be as lethal. It afflicts people of all ages and, most poignantly, young adults. The threat and uncertainty of COVID-19 and enforced separation from friends, family, familiar surroundings, and activities has made many of us feel more lonely. This 10-day course will give you the tools and techniques to balance the physical and emotional disturbance, the anxiety, and distress that loneliness causes and compounds. It will provide the support and confidence you need to live more freely and easily, and give you hope that you can move through shame, isolation, and insecurity to find self-confidence and connection. The program I present in this course is grounded in science, in my own experience of moving through and beyond times of overwhelming loneliness, and in my 50-year experience in successfully guiding lonely and traumatized people on the path of wholeness and healing.

An overview of the course, including a brief introduction to the universality of loneliness and its impact. You will receive instructions on beginning a personal program for healing loneliness, and how you can use a journal to help you do it.

Discover the restorative effects of Soft Belly, a ‘concentrative meditation’ that quiets our fight-or-flight response, the anxiety we feel when lonely.

Learn how to use movement, exercise, and ‘expressive meditation’ to dissipate feelings of loneliness and anxiety, self-consciousness and sadness.

Imagery is the language of the unconscious. This lesson will guide you through a series of imagery exercises designed to show you the power of your mind to affect your physical and psychological functioning—and to help overcome feelings of loneliness and inadequacy.

In this lesson, we will practice an advanced imagery technique to connect you with the deep inner wisdom that lies within each of us. Your personal ‘Wise Guide’ will help you to navigate loneliness, handle difficult decisions, and better understand yourself.

Use practical techniques to discover the restorative power of laughter and gratitude. You’ll see that laughter can dispel the self-doubt and self-pity that imprison us in loneliness. An experiment with gratitude will help you appreciate yourself and connect more easily with others.

Join Dr. Gordon in creating a diet and a mindful way of eating that, together, enhance our long-term physical and psychological wellbeing and mitigate our vulnerability to anxiety, depression, and loneliness.

Connection is the antidote to loneliness. But to build stronger connections with others, we must first learn to connect more deeply with our inner selves and the world around us. This lesson will show us how.

Receiving and Giving: Finding Love, Meaning, And Purpose
Service to others is also service to oneself. When we give to and care for those around us, we are rewarded, too, as our feelings of stress and loneliness are diminished. Discover this possibility.

Living Without Loneliness: A Practical Plan
In this final lesson, we will develop a comprehensive plan for moving through and beyond loneliness. You will emerge from this final lesson and this course with a greater sense of ease and appreciation, with earned hope for rewarding and close connection.

I really liked this course and the tools it gave for relieving loneliness. Shaking and dancing was my favorite, followed closely by soft belly breathing. Thank you for the wonderful lessons!

This was a fabulous course one that took me a while to get through but I would like to do it again and again. Thank you so very much for all your insights and my very favorite was the shaking and dancing and I will be doing that on a regular basis hopefully daily!
