Begin by finding a position that feels comfortable and supportive.
You might be sitting or lying down,
Whatever feels most easeful right now.
There is nothing you need to fix or figure out in this moment.
This is simply a space to let the mind soften without effort.
If it feels comfortable,
Allow your eyes to gently close,
Or keep them softly open,
Letting your gaze rest somewhere neutral.
Hands resting in a neutral position or wherever feels most comfortable for you.
Begin by noticing the feeling of your body being supported,
The contact beneath you,
The steadiness that is already here.
You don't need to relax into that support,
Just noticing that it exists.
You might begin to notice what the mind is doing right now.
You might notice planning,
Replaying,
Worrying,
Or a sense of mental busyness.
There is no need to stop the thoughts,
Or change them,
Just simply noticing that they're there.
If it feels helpful,
Imagine giving the mind permission to rest,
Not by making it quiet,
But by no longer needing to follow every thought.
Thoughts can come and go in the background,
While your attention rests lightly in the body.
Bring your awareness again to the physical sensations in your body.
The feeling of contact,
The weight of your body,
Or the rhythm of your breathing.
If the mind pulls you back into thinking,
That is okay.
Just gently noticing that it's happened,
And allowing attention to return to your body if that feels supportive.
And if returning attention feels like effort,
You're welcome to simply let the mind wander,
Allowing thoughts to move through without needing to engage or resolve them.
There is no right way for this to feel,
Anxiety doesn't need to disappear for this practice to be helpful.
For now,
Simply allowing your nervous system a moment of pause,
A break from doing,
A break from analysing.
As we come toward the end of this practice,
Notice how it feels to be here now.
You might gently bring some movement back into your body,
Wiggling your fingers or toes,
Stretching if that feels good.
And when you're ready,
Slowly opening your eyes,
Carrying this sense of mental softening with you into the rest of your day.
