All days aren't great.
Today has not been.
Great.
I was in a situation where.
Said a need,
A boundary with someone.
And they did not take it well at all.
And came.
Back at me with words in ways that I'm not able to respond to very well.
As I've said over the years,
You can corner me.
So.
.
.
I teach mindfulness.
I weave it into my codependency recovery,
My self-recovery.
And on days that it is beautiful,
It is easy.
To pause,
Connect,
And notice,
And then reflect and respond.
But on days that aren't great.
An error.
Sympathetic nervous system is activated.
Choosing to settle.
Into the breath and body is an extra challenge.
Even hours after a disagreement and altercation,
A disturbance,
Our sympathetic nervous system,
Our fight flight,
Freeze or fix and fawn.
Responses can be activated,
Maybe a bit quieted,
But activated.
So this evening I'm here on my dusk walk.
Intentionally.
Settling myself into a practice and wanting to share with you.
How everyday ain't grey.
And the challenges.
Of doing meditation.
When we need it the most,
Sometimes it's the hardest to settle ourself into it.
So this is just a loving,
Friendly.
Chat with you about my own.
Getting myself to my seat tonight.
So I'm going to be using my senses some here.
You can probably hear the creek coming down off of the mountains.
I can see the creek.
I can feel the cool evening air touching my skin.
What can you see?
What can you hear?
What do you feel?
Our senses are always there to help us.
First we have to pause and then we can connect to the present moment.
Through senses.
Tonight I'm just practicing connect.
Pause,
And connect.
Connecting with senses.
And now peeling my feet on the ground.
Myself seated on a stump here.
I'm going to connect with my breath.
This week I've been working on Thich Nhat Hanh's Guidance.
Of breathing in,
I follow my in-breath all the way through.
Breathing out,
I follow my out-breath all the way through.
All the way through.
On a day that ain't great.
It's easy to want to rush through it.
Skip over it.
But today.
.
.
And maybe you've selected this video because your day hasn't been great either.
So we're gonna work on three mindful breaths.
In and out.
With his wonderful words.
Breathing in,
I follow my in-breath all the way through.
Breathing out.
I follow my out-breath all the way through.
In.
All the way through.
Out.
All the way through.
In.
We're in the present moment.
It is safe.
It is calm.
I can give my nervous system a break.
I can smell the campfires around me.
I can see the trail I'll take back to my studio.
And as I wish for you.
Let's take good care.
Thank you for joining me.
On a day that hasn't been great.
