Thank you for joining me today.
I think to start it would be best if we can.
.
.
Just focus on settling in and paying attention to our nervous system paying attention to our breathing and our hearts not just physically but emotionally and spiritually just checking in with the way that our body is feeling and so I want you to first just slow yourself down by taking a few deep breaths with me,
And I'm going to lead us in our breathing.
So together,
Let's take a deep breath in.
And hold it if you can and exhale now.
And again,
We're going to take a deep breath in,
Holding it for a moment at the top.
And exhale,
Exhale all your emotions,
Any heaviness that you're carrying.
And one more time,
Let's take a deep breath in together.
And exhale.
Letting it all go.
Grounding yourself.
Being gentle with yourself,
Giving yourself space right now to just be.
We don't need to fix it.
And we can acknowledge the desire and the hope to fix it,
To make it better.
To find reconciliation and repair.
But right now,
We're not there.
Right now,
We are taking a moment for ourselves to check in,
To give ourselves grace.
And to remind ourselves of truth,
Despite what the patterns may tell us,
Despite what this moment may tell us or what our body is telling us but let's just take a deep breath and remember that there is a bigger picture there is a bigger and deeper message than the trigger that we're feeling in this moment.
And the trauma that has resurfaced.
I know as a stepmom myself,
There are triggers that come up for me.
There are patterns that arise and when I'm stuck in it,
It feels like quicksand and it feels impossible to see outside of it.
A lot of the time,
I feel like an outsider in my own family.
I feel like My greatest intentions are misinterpreted.
And I'm somehow seen as the bad guy.
I feel like whether I involve myself and throw myself in completely,
Or set boundaries and take time away and remove myself even slightly.
Either way,
Somehow it gets distorted or misconstrued.
It gets interpreted in a way that puts me in a place of authority or responsibility for others' emotions.
It gets interpreted that somehow.
.
.
I don't care enough.
And in these moments,
In these patterns where I get stuck.
I.
.
.
Really struggle to connect with Jesus,
To connect with God,
And ask Him what He says about me.
So I'm trying to tap into that right now and to create space to seek out God's ways and God's will and his ever-present,
Loving,
Unfailing truth and what he says about me versus what broken people are saying about me,
What broken children are thinking of me.
And although I'm not a martyr,
I'm not perfect.
In God's eyes?
I am seen purely and perfectly.
So.
.
.
If we can just.
.
.
For a moment,
Put on a different lens,
And look at ourselves through the eyes of Jesus.
How does he see you right now?
Does he look at you and hurl insults at you and heap on burdens?
Or does he offer to take the burdens off of you?
Does he extend his hand to hold your hand?
Does he pull you close and embrace you and envelop you with a huge,
Solid,
Loving hug.
Does he look in your eyes as they tear up?
And tell you.
With full authenticity that he sees you.
That he understands you.
That while your husband or your stepchildren or the people around you.
May not understand what you're going through.
That he wants to understand.
He wants to be by your side.
He has nowhere to go.
He's not rushed.
He's not trying to fix anything.
He's not trying to fix you.
He wants to just be present with you and validate The role that you're in is incredibly important.
Challenging,
It's daunting,
It's nearly impossible at times to navigate.
And he doesn't need to give you some sort of quick fix.
Need to just give you Bible verses to meditate on.
He genuinely wants to be present with you.
And hold you and comfort you in your pain.
It doesn't make it better.
It doesn't make it necessarily easier.
It doesn't take away the hurt that you feel or the narratives that you have.
But at least you can feel.
His warm embrace,
His presence.
Isn't that what we need,
Is presence?
Is.
The people around us who we love so much.
To seek to understand us.
And when we don't get that,
When our needs are not met from our family members.
It's so easy for me,
At least,
To feel so alone.
But I think Jesus really wants to be with us and take away that feeling of loneliness.
He wants to maybe not even take away but fulfill it just like he fulfilled so many prophecies about who he was and what he would do.
I think he wants to fulfill and fill up that void in our lives that inevitably It rises up.
Especially in a blinded family situation.
So.
.
.
Let's just take a moment to not even necessarily imagine but to actually interpret and feel and see Jesus with you and What does that look like?
Is he holding you?
Is he looking into your eyes?
I just want us to take a moment to really understand and see him and feel him.
And then I'll come back and check in in a moment,
But let's take some time now to connect with him.
And pay attention to what he's showing you.
It doesn't need to make sense right now,
But just pay attention to.
.
.
His presence and what he is showing you.
I'm not sure if you were able to see his presence with you.
Maybe he gave you something,
Maybe he gave you something tangible like a ruby or a pearl or present or something that you could see maybe he held you maybe I don't know only you know But I just want to encourage you.
In moments where you're feeling alone too.
Take time with him and ask him,
You know,
What does he want you to know about him?
What does he want you to know about yourself?
And then embracing it and and enjoying whatever gift he wants to give you.
And you can ask him for meaning,
You know,
What does this mean?
What do you want me to understand?
When i took time just now i I saw him.
I saw him with me and I saw him.
You know,
Softly offering a big red ruby.
And I don't know what it means.
I think that.
.
.
I need some time to connect with Herman.
And ask,
But I guess what's coming up right now is that You know,
I am his treasure,
And.
.
.
You know,
He has very big treasures for me as well.
And I think that's the same for you.
You know,
And just remember that that word,
That you are his treasure.
That even though you're facing a dynamic that is very complicated and kind of goes beyond what you're capable of fixing or even really understanding or manipulating,
You know,
He is.
.
.
Capable of transformation.
He is capable of doing new things in your home,
In your family.
And you are not responsible for changing your emotions or being the martyr in your family or,
You know,
Being responsible to fix everything with everyone.
And maybe in letting go and being present with him.
He can give us more than.
.
.
What we could ever muster up on our own.
Maybe there isn't an answer today.
Maybe there isn't.
A quick fix maybe?
Things will unfold slowly.
But I do want to encourage you that you are not alone and I've always wondered if anyone else knows what it feels like to be in my position because I have so many friends who are in nuclear families that I just feel like they truly just do not understand how hard it is to be a stepmother and know your place and and try to figure it out and how much it honestly changes and morphs and evolves and so I think that the only thing that has sustained me is coming to Jesus in times where I'd rather not,
You know?
I'd rather hold on.
I'd rather take it in my control.
I'd rather try to fix it.
I'd rather try to run away from everything and stay in bed all day.
But I think just being with him.
.
.
Is.
Is good.
It's good.
It's good for our spirit.
It's good for our soul.
And so,
You know,
I just want to encourage you and let you know that I wish I could meet you.
I wish I could hold you.
I wish I could,
You know,
Create.
A little ministry for us women who are who are carrying so much,
Including,
You know,
Caring for children who we didn't We didn't birth ourselves,
But caring for them in ways that.
.
.
You know,
Extend beyond.
Maybe sometimes what we're capable of providing.
So.
.
.
I don't think that I've necessarily offered any sort of long-term solution,
But I hope that I've at least provided a space where you could take a moment to rest,
Take a moment to connect with God,
And to just feel less alone.
If you're a fellow stepmother like me,
Or if you can relate to this in any way,
I would love.
.
.
For you to just comment and I don't know I would just love to connect with you somehow so.
Thank you for listening.
Thank you for being here with me today.
Even though I haven't met you,
Just know that I have love in my heart for you.
And yeah,
I just hope that you can find peace and that He provides the peace for you.
God bless you.
