In the previous contemplation,
We reflected on our firsts.
The first time you fell in love,
The first time you experienced a heartbreak,
And so on.
And now,
It's only fair to spend time thinking about our lasts.
As we step into this contemplation,
Remember to find yourself in a place where you are comfortable and feel safe,
Whatever that looks like for you today in this moment.
At some point in our lives,
Whether we realize it or not,
There will eventually come a day where we will begin to experience a series of lasts.
Here's the thing about thinking about lasts.
While they are happening to us all the time,
They take on more significance toward the end of our lives.
Just think about it.
The last time you eat dinner with your family.
The last time you watch a movie.
The last time you have sex.
The last time you stand in the shower,
Water flooding into your face by yourself.
First and last,
Life and death.
Like many things,
You cannot have one without the other.
A world does not exist where you can have all firsts and no lasts.
In starting to think about all of the lasts that await us,
How does this make you feel?
Are any particular emotions or visions coming to the surface?
For this contemplation,
Take the next few moments to think about your lasts.
Does anything stand out?
Are you remembering things that you love to do?
The people and places that matter most?
Does thinking about these lasts that await you feel negative or scary?
Or perhaps something positive,
Even a rite of passage?
Spending just another moment here,
Thinking and feeling into your lasts.
And when you're ready,
Stepping back into this moment,
Resting in perspective with full knowing of just how alive you are.
