When we think about our mortality,
We often think about the end of things.
The final act of the show called your life.
But a human life is also full of firsts.
Thinking about firsts and lasts can be a powerful tool,
A relatable way to contemplate your life experience in all of its timely mystery,
Joy,
And pain.
So let's take a moment to reflect on the fact that you are a person who has experienced many firsts,
Some spontaneous and sweet,
And others challenging and painful.
Over the next few moments,
Spend some time thinking about some of the firsts that stand out in your life.
This could be the first day of school,
Or the first time you drove a car,
The first time you fell in love,
And that first time you experienced heartbreak,
Or the first time you had one too many drinks.
And now,
Consider this.
What other firsts do you still have yet to experience?
Looking at today alone,
What firsts are available for you?
Can you find a sense of gratitude for the fact that you are able to appreciate all of these firsts and the many,
Many more to come?
And when you're ready,
Letting go of this thought exercise and stepping back into your day knowing just how very alive you are.
