Hi,
Thank you for joining us.
This is Morgan at splendid.
Yoga.
Eckhart Tolle tells us,
The past has no power over the present moment.
But we give it power.
We give it power.
We let the things that happen to us affect how we feel about what's happening right now.
And there are a few antidotes to this cycle of suffering.
We're going to practice one of them today.
It's the concept of being here now.
So we'll go through two different exercises.
Let's do the first one with your eyes open.
Wherever you are,
Seated if you can make that happen.
And open your eyes up as wide as they can go and take in everything that's right in front of you.
So look right in front of you.
Look at the color,
The texture.
Don't tell yourself the story about it.
Just look at it.
It's energy.
What shape is it taking?
Is it moving?
Stay focused on what's right in front of you.
All right,
Now keep your eyes focused forward but take in your peripheral vision.
So that's your side vision.
So look at the things that are without actually moving your eyes just kind of at the left and right corners of your vision.
Like how far,
Without moving your eyes,
How far can you see off to the left?
And how far can you see off to the right?
And can you take in that kind of fisheye lens?
Even though you're just looking forward,
You're looking straight forward at one thing.
Your eyes aren't moving.
You can still see so much more than that one thing.
Take in all the things,
Especially right at the edges of your vision.
Now look for something green,
Something alive,
A plant.
Most of the time we can find a plant somewhere near us,
If not alive in nature,
In a pot,
In a vase,
Something dried.
Find something that was green and maybe it's still alive and focus in on the textures.
You don't have to move closer to it.
Just whatever you can see from where you are.
Focus in on an individual leaf or an individual petal and just look at it.
Whatever that green thing is,
Even if it's a fake potted plant,
We like to surround ourselves with nature.
There's usually something close by.
Focus in on that one little blade,
That one branch,
That one twig and just notice it.
You don't need it to do anything.
Just let it be there.
Just look at it.
Blink your eyes a lot and move your eyes a lot.
Look to the corners and up and down and to the right corners and the left corners and make the diagonal and the loop-de-loops and the big teenage eye rolls and really work those eyes out and they're going to rest now.
Close your eyes and feel whatever is touching the ground.
Push down into the ground with whatever is touching the ground.
If you're standing,
Push your feet down.
If you're seated,
Push your booty down into the ground.
If you're standing on your hands,
Push your hands down.
And feel yourself in this moment on this earth.
The earth is rotating and that rotational pull is creating some gravity.
It's holding you in this space and it's holding everything around you in its space and you're right where you need to be.
Be here now.
Experience it.
Be here now.
Experience it through your senses.
What does it sound like?
What does right here,
Right now sound like?
What does it smell like?
That one's harder.
Your eyes are closed but you just had them open.
In your mind's eye,
Imagine what does it look like around you?
What does it feel like on your skin?
What does it taste like?
Not just on your tongue but like in your spirit.
And you can do that anytime my friends just by closing your eyes,
Just by thinking to yourself.
Be here now.
Thanks friends.
