Right now,
Your body is already rising.
Most of us have never felt it because we're too busy holding everything together.
There's a force moving through your skeleton right now.
Upward and effortless,
Working in direct response to gravity.
I call it the lift.
And the only thing standing between you and feeling it is trying too hard to find it.
Hi,
I'm Meredith.
I'm going to guide you today through a somatic practice exploring ease and lift.
Two forces that work together in your body in a way most of us have never been taught to feel.
Find a comfortable seat and let's begin.
So let's start with something simple.
Feet on the floor.
Feel the chair beneath you.
I feel what's underneath the floor all that structure holding your body right now Including gravity itself Just feel the weight of your body.
Maybe take a few breaths.
As you check in.
Sigh.
You can notice where the weight is falling.
You can shift and adjust.
And there's no right way.
Just arrived.
In this moment.
Here's what I want to show you.
Most of us think that grounding is one directional.
Down.
Held by the earth.
And it's true.
Grounding does feel that way.
But if gravity had its way entirely,
You'd just collapse.
We'd all just be smushed.
So something else is happening.
Something your body is doing right now without any instruction from you.
And that's something.
Is lift.
Before we can feel the list,
We need to make a little space.
So as you sit here,
Scan your body for anywhere that feels like it's on standby.
You know the feeling.
A little tension.
A little tightness.
A little readiness.
Maybe it's your jaw.
Your shoulders.
Tight belly.
Could be the place behind your eyes.
This is your nervous system holding rightiness.
A gentle bracing for something that isn't coming in this moment,
But might come soon.
So if there's even 2% of holding that you can let go of right here,
Right now,
Let's practice that.
Ah.
And remember,
You're not releasing into empty space.
You're relaxing into being held.
Remember that chair?
The floor,
The structure that's already here Just let yourself really feel into it.
Nothing to fix.
Just a small softening.
Because right now,
This is the moment that we are in.
Nothing to react to.
Nowhere to be.
Just right here.
Notice how your head is stacked,
On top of your shoulders.
Your shoulders on top of your ribs,
Ribs on hip.
Can you feel that stacking?
It's not just anatomy.
That is also lift.
Your body is genius.
And the skeleton is designed to respond to gravity.
With an equal and opposite force,
Upward.
Built right into the structure of how you're made.
Can you feel it?
You're already being lifted.
It isn't something you create.
It's something you open to.
So try this with me.
Sit up straight.
Good posture,
You know,
The way we're taught in school.
Chin up,
Shoulders back,
Spine erect.
Remember that?
Can you feel it?
That feels like holding,
Right?
Attention.
That's you trying to create the lift.
And it costs something.
Now let that go.
Just release.
Release yourself.
Let your body soften.
You're not collapsing.
You're just melting into what's holding you.
Maybe even take a few breaths here.
Maybe you can feel the lift coming from the top of your head.
Maybe you can feel the lift coming through your solar plexus,
Heart.
And head.
That's subtle rise.
That comes when you stop forcing.
That's the lift finding you.
And that's your body doing what it was built to do.
That's the moment you stopped getting in the way.
And that.
Is ease.
Take a few breaths here.
And feel how good this feels.
It's really delightful.
Ahhhh.
Maybe even deepen it.
Here's the paradox.
Ease is sometimes just a purposeful Relaxing.
So that the lift can come.
The lift was never gone.
It's just you've stopped feeling it because you were interrupting it with effort.
This is a sensation we can't think our way into.
You have to stop trying.
And just notice.
And especially for those of us who like to hold everything together.
Maybe those of us who might like control.
This is an excellent awareness practice for letting go of control and effort.
While knowing the felt sense of being held,
Supported and lifted.
That is ease.
So take one more breath.
Let that out.
You don't have to create ease.
You don't have to create lift.
They're already here.
Just let your body show you what it already knows.
How are you?
Good,
Right?
You can return to this anytime.
At your desk,
Before a meeting.
Maybe a hard moment.
Just soften.
Feel that stack.
And let the lift find you.
The more you trust this,
The less you have to hold everything together.
And the more your body shows you how to move from steadiness instead of effort,
That's the win.
Thanks for being here.
Big love.
