One of yoga's fundamental teachings is that beyond all appearances,

Beyond your physical body,

And beyond all your experiences,

There exists within you your essential self.

Your essential nature is eternal and untouched by all that you have experienced or will experience.

It is your inner light of awareness and is also your most trustworthy guide and teacher.

This meditation will take you on a journey within to meet your inner teacher,

Also known as your highest self.

This meditation can be practiced while in a comfortable meditation seat or lying down.

So take a moment to get comfortable and close your eyes.

Take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your mouth.

Now breathing in and out through your nose,

Watch your breath as it fills you and releases.

Notice the contours of your body and the places where your body is supported by the floor or cushion.

Take a moment to scan your body for any places of tension and invite that tension to dissolve with each exhale.

Now visualize yourself resting in a beautiful meadow.

The air is fresh and the temperature is comfortable.

Imagine a place that makes you feel safe and relaxed.

The sky is blue,

The wind is gently swaying through the grasses and the trees and there are birds singing.

You notice a warm path leading through the meadow and you decide to walk along it.

You walk slowly placing your feet steadily and gently down step after step enjoying a relaxing stroll.

After a while you notice a person is seated far ahead of you on the trail.

From where you are you can't make out yet who it is but you can sense it is a person of great presence.

You begin to walk with the intention of reaching this person.

As you get closer you notice the person is truly noble and beautiful and you become very interested to meet this person.

As you continue walking you notice the clothes he or she is wearing are well made,

Flowing,

Natural and lovely.

You notice that something seems very familiar about this person.

You get a bit closer and see that she or he has beautiful skin and shining hair.

Finally you are close enough to realize this person is you.

It is the you you have always imagined as your most gracious,

Healthy,

Beautiful and composed self.

As you arrive in front of this highest version of you this being smiles serenely and beckons you to take a seat.

You sit and bask in his or her radiant glow and calm energy.

Now ask this being if she or he has a message for you.

Take several moments to be still and listen for any message that your highest self has to offer you.

It might come as words or it may come as a feeling or even as an image.

Listen and receive it now.

Now taking your palms onto your chest hold that message in your heart.

Take your breath deeply in and slowly out.

Allow yourself to become aware once again of the room you are in and the sounds around you.

Listen to your breath and feel the message of your highest self permeating your mind and body.

You might like to get your journal and write down any messages you experienced.

May your highest self always be your most trustworthy guide and teacher.
