This Yoga Nidra practice is inspired by Yoga Sutra 1.9, where Patanjali teaches vikalpa — imagination, or the mind’s ability to create inner worlds through words, ideas, and stories. One phrase can create a whole emotional reality: What if? I am behind. This will go wrong. They may judge me. Before anything has actually happened, the body may already be reacting to a story the mind has created. This deeply restful practice helps you recognise anxious imagination and return to what is actually present: the body, the breath, the ground, and awareness. Listen when you feel trapped in future fears, mental stories, planning, worrying, or imagined conversations. You are also warmly invited to join the Living the Yoga Sutras group here on Insight Timer, where we bring the sutras into meditation, reflection, and daily life. See the story. Return to the breath. Rest in what is here.
