This meditation is inspired by week 8 of the Artist's Way.
Recovering our sense of strength and this meditation is titled the strength to continue.
So if you have your journal with you,
Set your journal aside.
And allow your hands to this.
Sit or lie down in a position that feels supportive.
And you may close your eyes or simply soften your gaze.
Take a slow breath in.
Release it gently.
Once again,
Breathing in.
And breathing out.
Allow the muscles around the eyes to soften.
Relax the jaw.
Let the shoulders lower slightly.
Feel the support beneath you.
Imagine yourself standing at the beginning of a quiet path.
The path represents your creative life.
It does not appear perfectly straight.
Some parts are clear.
Some curve beyond your view.
Some places show signs of where you stopped.
Turn the back.
Or became uncertain.
And yet the path remains.
Notice that you are carrying a bag.
Inside this bag are some of the messages and experiences that you have gathered.
A Criticism a rejection,
A missed opportunity,
A debt,
A belief that you are too late.
A fear that your work will never be good enough.
You do not need to remove everything today.
Simply reach into the bag.
And choose one burden.
That you are ready to hold differently.
Perhaps it has a shape,
A color,
Or some weight.
Hold it gently.
Acknowledge This affected me.
This may have changed my path.
But it does not have the dive.
To define all that comes next.
Beside the path,
Imagine a place where you can set this burden down.
You are not denying the past.
You are allowing yourself to continue.
Without carrying its full weight into every new beginning.
Please sit down.
Notice your body.
Perhaps nothing feels dramatically different.
Strength is not always dramatic.
Sometimes it is simply the ability to face forward.
Ahead of you.
The path is visible only for the short distance.
You cannot see the whole journey,
But you can see one step.
Perhaps the step appears as a word.
Perhaps the step appears as a word.
Write.
Call.
Learn.
Rest.
Ask.
Practice.
Return.
Share.
Begin.
Wait for the word that belongs to you.
Now imagine yourself taking that one step.
Not the whole journey,
Only one step.
Feel the ground meet you.
Silently that be.
I am allowed.
To acknowledge what hurts.
I am allowed to heal in my own time.
I can learn from the past.
Without living inside it.
I am not too late.
For the life available to me now.
I do not need to master the whole journey today.
I can honour the process.
I can take one small workable step.
My strength grows each time I return.
Now imagine a small steady flame within your chest.
A small steady flame.
It has survived more than you sometimes recognize.
You do not need to make it blaze,
You only need to protect it.
Not this shit.
And give it enough air to continue.
Ask quietly.
What is the next kind thing?
That I can do for my creative self.
What is the next kind thing I can do for my creative self?
Receive the answer without arguing with it.
Let it be small.
Let it be enough.
And take one slow with that in.
And exhale.
Notice the doom around you.
Feel the surface beneath your body.
Move your hands,
Move your feet.
And when you are ready,
If your eyes were closed,
Open your eyes or lift your gaze.
And take a moment to write down the word.
DMHR the action.
That came to you.
