This meditation is based on week 6 of the Artist's Way Recovering a Sense of Abundance.
This meditation is titled The River of Enough.
If you've been journaling.
Let your journal rest.
Find a comfortable position.
Allow your hands to soften.
And if it feels right,
Close your eyes or lower your gaze.
And take a slow breath in.
And let the breath leave gently.
Once again,
Breathing in.
And breathing out.
Feel the support beneath your body.
For these few minutes,
You do not need to earn anything.
You do not need to prove anything.
You do not need to solve every financial or creative concern.
You are simply here.
Imagine yourself walking through a quiet,
Natural landscape.
It may be a garden,
Or the forest,
Or the desert after thee.
Or the mountain path.
Or the place entirely of your imagination.
As you are walking,
Notice the variety around you.
Different colors.
Different shapes.
Different textures.
Nothing here needs to be identical to belong.
Ahead of you,
There is a clear,
Gently flowing river.
Walk toward it at your own pace.
Find a safe place beside the water.
And settle there.
Listen to the movement of the liver.
It does not hold all of its water in fear that no more will come.
It receives and it releases.
Imagine that you are holding a small stone.
And this stone carries one belief.
About scarcity or about worth.
That has become heavy for you.
Perhaps it says,
There will never be enough.
All my creativity is an indulgence.
Or I must struggle to deserve support or I cannot enjoy anything until every problem is solved.
Or perhaps your stone carries different words.
You do not have to deny the experiences that created this belief.
Simply notice its weight.
Notice its way.
And ask gently.
Is this belief helping me see clearly?
Or is it making my world smaller?
Is this belief helping me see clearly?
Or is it making my world smaller?
If you are ready.
Place the stone on the ground beside you.
You do not have to throw it away.
You are simply giving yourself a little space to consider another possibility.
Look at the river again.
Imagine that it carries many forms of nourishment.
Not only money.
Die.
Ideas Friendship.
Skill.
Beauty.
This.
Guidance,
Opportunity,
The ability to begin again.
Notice which form of nourishment you need most today.
Now imagine holding out your hands.
You are not demanding that life give you everything.
You are practicing the willingness to receive one honest form of support.
Silently Say.
I am willing.
To notice what supports me.
I am willing.
To deceive without shame.
I am willing.
To use what I have with care.
My creativity.
Is worthy of nourishment.
Now let an image appear of one simple luxury.
That would help your creative self feel cared for.
Let an image appear of one simple luxury.
A little time,
A beautiful cup.
Music.
Fresh fruit or clean corner A walk in sunlight.
Permission to play badly.
Let the image become clear.
And ask yourself.
How can I offer this to myself?
Responsibly.
How can I offer this to myself responsibly?
Now bring to mind one resource you already possess.
It may be an ability.
A relationship,
A tool,
A place,
A body of knowledge or the willingness to keep the turning.
Bring to mind one resource you already possess.
Recognize it.
Without minimizing it.
And silently say,
This too is part of my abundance.
This too is part of my abundance.
Let yourself experience the difference between saying that everything is perfect and recognizing that something valuable is present.
You do not need to deny what is missing in order to honour what is here.
Both truths.
Can exist together.
Now imagine the river continuing beyond what you can see.
You do not know every turn it will take.
Your task is not to control the whole rebel.
Your task is to listen,
This pond and take the next step available to you.
And ask yourself.
What is one conscious choice I can make this week?
What is one conscious choice I can make this week?
Perhaps it is to count,
Or to create,
Or to test,
Or to ask,
Or to receive,
Or to Enjoy something without turning it into an achievement.
What is one conscious choice I can make this week?
Let one answer be enough.
Take a deeper breath in.
And release it slowly.
Feel your body supported.
Feel your feet.
Feel your hands.
Notice any sounds around you.
And silently repeat.
There may be more support.
Then I have notice.
There may be more support than I have noticed.
I can honor my reality.
Without abandoning possibility.
I can honor my reality without abandoning possibility.
I am allowed.
To nourish the creative life within me.
I am allowed to nourish the creative life within me.
Carry that permission with you as you return.
And whenever you are ready,
If your eyes were closed,
Gently open your eyes.
