Now this is what the Lord says,

He who created you,

He who formed you,

Do not fear for I have redeemed you.

I have summoned you by name,

You are mine.

When you pass through the waters,

I will be with you and when you pass through the rivers,

They will not sweep over you.

When you walk through fire,

You will not be burned.

The flames will not set you ablaze,

For I am the Lord your God,

The Holy One of Israel,

Your Savior.

I gift Egypt for your ransom,

Cush and Saba for your stead,

Since you are precious and honored in my sight and because I love you.

I will give you people I will give you people in exchange for you,

Nations in exchange for your life.

Do not be afraid,

For I am with you.

I will bring you your children from the east and gather you from the west.

I will say to the north,

Give them up and to the south,

Do not hold them back.

Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth,

Everyone who is called by my name,

Whom I created for my glory,

Whom I formed and made.

Lead out those who have eyes but are blind,

Who have ears but are deaf,

All the nations gather together and the peoples assemble.

Which of their gods foretold this and proclaimed to us the former things?

Let them bring in their witnesses to prove they were right so that others may hear and say,

It is true.

You are my witnesses declares the Lord and my servant whom I have chosen,

So that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he.

Before me no god was formed,

Nor will there be one after me.

I,

Even I,

Am the Lord and apart from me there is no Savior.

I have revealed and saved and proclaimed I am not some foreign god among you.

You are my witnesses declares the Lord that I am God.

Yes and from ancient days I am he.

No one can deliver out of my hand.

When I act,

Who can reverse it?

This is what the Lord says,

Your Redeemer,

The Holy One of Israel.

For your sake I will send to Babylon and bring down his fugitives all the Babylonians in the ships in which they took pride.

I am the Lord your God,

The Holy One,

Israel's creator,

Your king.

This is what the Lord says,

He who made a way through the sea of Babylon,

Who made a way through the sea,

A path through the mighty waters,

Who drew out the chariots and horses,

The army and reinforcements together,

And they lay there never to rise again.

Forget the former things,

Do not dwell on the past.

See I am doing a new thing,

Now it springs up.

Do you not perceive it?

I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

The wild animals honor me,

The jackals and the owls,

Because I provide water in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland in order to give drink to my people,

My chosen,

The people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise.

I,

Even I,

Am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake and remembers your sins no more.

Review the past for me,

Let us argue the matter together,

State the case for your innocence.

Your first father sinned,

Those I sent to teach you rebelled against me,

So I disgraced the dignitaries of your temple.

But now listen,

You whom the Lord has chosen,

This is what he says,

He who made you,

Who formed you in the womb and who will help you.

Do not be afraid,

You who I have chosen,

For I will pour out water on the thirsty land and streams on the dry ground.

I will pour out my spirit on your offering and my blessing on your descendants.

They will spring up like grass in a meadow,

Like poplar trees by flowing streams.

Some will say,

I belong to the Lord.

Others will call themselves by the name of Jacob.

Still others will write on their hand,

The Lord's,

And will take the name Israel.

This is what the Lord says,

Israel's king and redeemer,

The Lord almighty.

I am the first and I am the last.

Apart from me there is no God.

Who then is like me?

Let him proclaim it.

Let him declare and lay out before me what has happened since I established my ancient people and what is yet to come.

Yes,

Let them foretell what will come.

Do not tremble,

Do not be afraid.

Did I not proclaim this and foretell it long ago?

You are my witnesses.

Is there any God besides me?

No,

There is no other rock.

I know not one.

All who make idols are nothing and the things they treasure are worthless.

Those who would speak up for them are blind.

They are ignorant to their own shame.

Who shapes a God and casts an idol which can profit nothing?

People who do that will be put to shame.

Such craftsmen are only human beings.

Let them all come together and take their stand.

The blacksmith takes a tool and works with it in the coals.

He shapes an idol with hammers.

He forges it with the might of his arm.

He gets hungry and loses his strength.

He drinks no water and grows faint.

The carpenter measures with a line and he makes an outline with a marker.

He roughs it out with chisels and marks it with compasses.

He shapes it in human form,

Human form in all its glory that it may dwell in a shrine.

He cut down cedars or perhaps took a cypress or oak.

He let it grow among the trees of the forest or planted a pine and the rain made it grow.

But he also fashions a God and worships it.

He makes an idol and bows down to it.

He warms himself and says,

Ah I am warm.

I see the fire.

From the rest he makes a God,

His idol.

He bows down to it and worships.

He prays to it and says,

Save me.

You are my God.

But they know nothing.

They understand nothing.

Their eyes are plastered over so they cannot see and their minds so closed that they cannot understand.

No one stops to think.

No one has the knowledge or understanding to say.

Half of it I use for fuel.

I even baked bread over its coals.

Shall I make a detestable thing from what is left?

Shall I bow down to a block of wood?

Such a person feeds on ashes.

A deluded heart misleads him.

He cannot save himself.

Remember all of these things for you are my servant.

I have made you.

You are my servant.

I will not forget you.

I have swept away your offenses like a cloud.

Your sins like the morning mist.

Return to me for I have redeemed you.

Sing for joy you heavens for the Lord has done this.

Shout aloud you earth beneath.

Burst into song you mountains,

You forests and all your trees.

For the Lord has redeemed you.

He displays his glory through you.

This is what the Lord says,

Your Redeemer who formed you in the womb.

I am the Lord,

The maker of all things,

Who stretches out the heavens,

Who spreads out the earth by myself,

Who foils the signs of false prophets and makes fools of defenders,

Who overthrows the learning of the wise and turns it into nonsense,

Who carries out the words of his servants and fulfills the predictions of his messengers.

He says of Jerusalem,

It shall be inhabited of the towns of Judah.

They shall be rebuilt and of their ruins I will restore them.

Who says to the watery deep,

Be dry and I will dry up your streams.

He will say of Jerusalem,

Let it be rebuilt and of the temple let its foundations be laid.
