The intention of this practice is to reconnect you to nature and life. It may help you to feel more connectedness, trust, appreciation, and access to your inner compass as well as motivation to care for our planet. It is based on the concept of Imagination Activism which is part of the Inner Development Goals. The text and title are inspired by Phoebe Tickell. Enjoy, friend.

Welcome to the Sampiosis Meditation.

The intention of this meditation is to remember that life is all about cooperation.

Remembering this can bring you more connectedness,

Appreciation and guidance in life.

You are welcome to do this meditation outside in nature if this feels comfortable for you.

Start by finding a posture that allows you to be fully present and relaxed at the same time.

You might want to sit upright with relaxed shoulders,

Your feet flat on the ground and your hands on your legs.

Take three deep breaths to calm your mind and arrive here fully.

And close your eyes if this feels right for you.

First I invite you to put your attention on everything that is solid in your body.

We call this the earth element.

Feel into your body and the parts where you feel contact with your surroundings.

Your sitting bones on a chair,

Your feet on the ground and the heaviness of your body through gravitation.

Be aware of your teeth.

Maybe you want to touch them with your tongue.

And put your attention on your bones,

Your jaw,

Your ribcage,

Your pelvis.

Connect with all the solid parts of your body.

Your bones are made out of calcium carbonate,

Exactly the same material that makes up rocks and cliffs outside.

I invite you now to switch your focus outside your body and imagine all these rocks,

Cliffs,

Stones and other earth elements surrounding you somewhere in nature.

They all were formed by natural forces like water and wind and also by millions of microorganisms that gave them their current form.

They contain the same atoms like the bones in your body.

At least one of the atoms in your bones used to be in the bones of a dinosaur.

And you are exchanging back the earth elements in your body to the environment all the time.

You are shedding hair and skin cells and actually after seven years you replace all your cells completely.

Next I invite you to put your focus on what is liquid in your body,

The element of water.

Paying attention to your saliva in your mouth,

The moisture in your eyes,

The mucus that lines your throat and stomach and all of the inside of you,

And your blood that's being pumped through your body.

Take some time and connect with the liquid parts of your body.

Seventy percent of our bodies is made out of water,

The same water that you find in the rain,

Rivers and lakes.

I invite you to take your imagination out into the world again and imagine the vast rivers,

Oceans,

Lakes,

Waterfalls and all of the other water elements that are out there.

Imagine the water and the soil,

The moisture and worms that wriggle through it,

Or the venom of a snake and the honey of the bees.

The water you got in your body is leaving it all the time,

Even in the breath that you are breathing out right now.

And that water joins the rest of the water outside in a never-ending circle.

In fact,

At least one water molecule in your body has passed through specific bacteria billions of years ago and was converted into oxygen.

Now you may put your attention on your breath,

Which represents the air element,

The air that is constantly flowing in and out of your body,

Your lungs.

Feel that air in your nostrils coming in a little bit cooler and coming out with a little bit more heat in it.

Just feel the constant steam of air coming in and out for a few moments.

We all humans and all living beings share the same air on this planet.

And we also share the breeze in the trees and the wind that's howling out there somewhere.

Imagine the trees moving with the wind,

Leaves flying around,

The sky with the clouds slowly moving.

How does the wind sound for you?

And you are breathing out CO2,

Which plants are using right now for photosynthesis to produce oxygen.

And this oxygen you need in your lungs to live and to stay the way you are.

Take a few deeper breaths to celebrate this connection.

Now let's focus on the life going on inside your body,

The movement,

Heat,

Energy,

The fire element.

Deep inside your veins there is blood pumping and that pumping,

Your pulse,

Is your heartbeat.

I invite you to pay attention to the center of your chest where your heart is located.

Connect with your heart and try to feel your heart beating.

If you like you can put your hands on your heart for a while to intensify this feeling.

It might be that your heart beats fast or relaxed,

Both is fine,

Just feel it.

That heartbeat has been beating for millions of years.

It has been beating in an ape not that long ago.

And before that it was beating in the heart of small mammals and before that in the heart of a fish.

And it's thanks to that chain of life that is unbroken that you are here today.

An unbroken connection of life of different organisms.

Actually the reason you are able to think and move and breathe is thanks to reactions happening deep in your cells by little tiny organisms called mitochondria,

That once upon a time used to be bacteria and now are an essential part of the body.

And you have even more little helpers,

Bacterias and fungi inside your body and on your skin.

Maybe you can feel them in your gut,

Your digestion system,

Doing important work for transforming food into all the things that you need.

Today our bodies contain more bacteria than human cells.

That means that you are more a living ecosystem out of billions of little creatures than one living being.

So when you are meeting someone today,

I invite you to imagine all your little bacteria saying hi to the bacteria of the other person.

So life is built on symbiosis.

It's built on networking.

Connecting diverse forms of life,

The interaction between them and adaption over time.

We are not disconnected from nature.

We are a part of nature.

Connected somehow to everything and to each other.

Without this connection life wouldn't be possible.

I invite you to keep that feeling of connectedness for the rest of your day or maybe even longer.

You may take a few deeper breaths,

Breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth.

And slowly coming back by opening your eyes and maybe inviting some gentle movement in your body,

Hands or your feet.

Looking around you.

And it might be that you notice a slightly shifted perspective on the world and yourself.

Thank you very much for your attention and thank yourself for joining this meditation.

Enjoy this wonderful day and hear you soon.
