Welcome.
This practice is for moments when you're experiencing a headache or migraine and you'd like to bring a little more calm to your nervous system.
Headaches and migraines are complex conditions with many different triggers.
While this practice won't necessarily make symptoms disappear,
It may help reduce tension,
Fear,
And nervous system activation that can sometimes accompany them.
As always,
Listen to your body.
If anything in this practice feels uncomfortable,
You're welcome to pause,
Adjust,
Or simply return your attention to your surroundings.
Let's begin.
Allow yourself to settle into a comfortable position.
Perhaps you're sitting.
.
.
Or laying down in a quiet place.
If it feels comfortable,
Allow your eyes to gently close or soften your gaze.
Take one slow,
Easy breath.
There's nothing you need to change right now.
Nothing you need to fix.
Simply notice that you've taken a moment to care for yourself.
Now become aware of the support beneath you.
Feel the chair,
The bed the floor.
Notice the places where your body is being held.
Take a moment to notice the air on your skin.
Perhaps the temperature of the room.
The sounds around you.
Allow your awareness to widen beyond the discomfort.
Now gently acknowledge the headache or migraine.
Without trying to push it away.
Simply notice.
You might ask yourself.
What am I experiencing right now?
Is it pressure?
Throbbing.
Aching.
Tightness.
There's no right or wrong answer.
Try to observe that sensation through a lens of curiosity.
See if you can notice where you feel the sensation most clearly.
Does it stay in one place or does it shift?
Is it constant?
Or does it pulse?
Does it have edges?
Or does it feel more diffuse?
See if you can observe as though you were simply gathering information.
Not judging.
Not fighting.
Just noticing.
If you notice your mind becoming worried or feeling anxious,
Perhaps wondering if the pain will get worse,
Gently acknowledge those thoughts.
And then bring yourself back to this moment.
You might silently remind yourself.
I don't have to solve this right now.
I'm supporting my nervous system.
I can meet this moment with kindness.
Now expand your awareness.
Notice your shoulders Can they soften even a tiny amount?
Notice your jaw.
Perhaps allowing it to unclench.
Notice your hands.
Your feet.
Notice places in your body that maybe feel neutral or even comfortable.
Allow your awareness to include your whole body,
Not only the headache.
Take one more slow,
Gentle breath.
And remind yourself.
This moment will change.
I can care for myself with patience and compassion.
This is really hard and I can meet myself with kindness.
As we come to the end of this practice,
Notice the support beneath you once more.
Notice your breathing.
Notice the space around you Thank yourself for taking these few moments to slow down and reconnect with your body.
I hope this practice has offered you a small sense of steadiness,
Comfort or ease.
Take gentle care of yourself as you continue with your day.
