Will I meditate better if I do it more often?
Of course,
It's going to get better.
But it's not the frequency.
It's that you do it right,
And that's going to lead to improvement.
So it's the same thing as in order to reach your destination,
You have to point yourself to the right direction and be really diligent and consistent as you walk towards that direction.
Once again,
In order to arrive at a destination,
You can't just walk busily towards somewhere.
You have to choose the right road,
Right direction,
And you have to be consistent and busy and diligent as you walk towards it in order to arrive at that destination.
Then what does it mean to have a right direction in meditation?
One is the approach.
You can't exert an effort or strain to meditate.
You have to meditate in a peaceful way that's filled with spacious idleness.
And second,
You have to be able to focus on one thing.
You have to focus on either the tip of the nose to be aware of the breath,
On your face to be focused on the sensations,
Or your body to be focused on the sensation of the motions.
Third criteria that makes up the direction,
The right direction of meditation is that you have to maintain the awareness,
The mindfulness.
In other words,
You have to be awake.
You can't allow yourself to be dulled.
You can't allow yourself to immerse into distracting thoughts.
Can't go to sleep.
And if you do any of these,
It means you have lost that awareness.
But of course,
As you've experienced once you've tried it,
This is not easy.
That's why you need steady and consistent practice.
And do not really obsess over whether you're doing something right or not.
You can't be hurried.
You can't be anxious.
And you can't try to hurry something up.
You've got to be consistent and constant in a peaceful and calm manner.
And if you have to refocus each time that you lose that initial focus without giving up,
It's like being consistent and constant in trying to maintain your mindfulness.
So you've got to be consistent and as well constant in midst of this peace that you maintain.
You've got to sustain that clarity of awareness.
