Eagle Poem by Joy Harjo To pray You open your whole self to sky to earth to Sun to moon To one whole voice that is you and know there is more that you can't see Can't hear Can't know except in moments steadily growing and in languages that aren't always sound but other circles of motion Like eagle that Sunday morning over Salt River Circled in blue sky in wind Swept our hearts clean with sacred wings We see you See ourselves and know That we must take the utmost care and kindness in all things Breathe in Knowing we are made of all this and breathe Knowing we are truly blessed Because we were born and die soon Within a true circle of motion Like eagle Rounding out the morning inside us We pray that it will be done in beauty In beauty

I know very little poetry but the ones you share here I am deeply familiar with and have passed on. Perhaps, sharing the expierience of moving through life with as much compassion, insight, integrity and gratitude for β€˜what is’ …is the through line that brings peace for the whole human circle of life. And one that speaks to living with this current condition in peace and deepened spiritual growth.

The poem reminded me of watching a lone eagle fly low across the Great Salt Lake. The early morning light streamed beneath each effortless beat of her wings.,..a memory of hope. When you read her last words-beauty--some questions came into my mind. How can a slender stream of grace balance the destructive combustion addictions of our race? And when did we decide that a life of ease was better than protecting this beauty? Aymen. Aymen. "A Prayer for the Holy Mother"

Yes. And may it be done β€” in beauty. So many encounters with mortality in these days β€” our own and all beings. It has always been so, but it matters HOW we live. I am grateful for Joy Harjo’s poem, John, and for your sharing of it. You give me much to ponder. Linda

Oof, lovely. As an ex-northerner living down under, it's so nice to hear a northern voice on here. Lovely poem mate, thanks. I'll be back for more x
