This meditation is meant to be done in a seated position.
It's said that we only use about 10% of our lungs.
So I'm going to guide you into a deeper experience of your own breath and into using a greater percentage of your lung capacity.
The sounds that I'll guide you through can be done audibly but they can also be done inaudibly or just being hinted at by shaping your throat in a certain way.
We'll begin by breathing in with an O sound.
And notice that this brings your breath into the base of your lungs.
Allow your lungs to expand equally in all directions as you breathe.
Front to back,
Side to side,
And top to bottom.
And equally in every little direction in between.
Now begin inhaling with an ah sound.
Notice that this brings your breath into your middle lungs.
Still allowing your lungs to expand equally in all directions as if you were a sphere pulsing.
Expanding with your inhales.
Gently contract your breath.
And lastly inhale with an E sound.
With your exhales.
Lastly inhale with an E sound.
And notice that this focuses your breath more in your upper lungs,
Your chest area.
Still expanding equally in all directions.
And consciously sending your breath into those places that feel like they don't expand very readily.
Now connect all three syllables,
O,
Ah,
And E,
In a full breath.
Feel your lungs fill from bottom to top,
Just like a vessel being filled with water.
Expanding your ribcage equally in all directions.
Developing your capacity for deeper,
More full breaths.
Enjoy the newfound space in your lungs,
Your larger lung capacity,
And your deeper,
More full breaths.
